India Leads Gold Medal Haul in Western Asia Youth Rapid Chess Championships

India won five gold medals followed by Kazakhstan with 3 golds, Uzbekistan 2 and Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh with one each in the Western Asia Youth Rapid Chess Championships held 16th June. The tournament was opened by host Maldives Chess Association President Husain Shiyan together with Zone 3.2 President Syed Shahab Uddin of Bangladesh, Zone 3.4 President Husan Turdialiev of Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka Chess Federation President Luxman Wijesuriya, newly elected Chess Federation of Pakistan President Hanef Qureshi and other dignitaries in ceremonies above and below. Nine countries are competing in the event organized by the Maldives Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE, namely Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and host Maldives.

The Technical Meeting was conducted by Chief Arbiter IA Haroon or Rashid of Bangladesh assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter IA Kaussar Bauyrzhan of Kazakhstan. Visit chess-results.com.
