Oshrie Jhames Reyes wins Philippine Youth Under-11 Open Grand Finals

MANILA—National Master (NM) Oshrie Jhames Reyes of Santa Rita, Pampanga pocketed the top honors in the National Youth and Schools Chess Championships Under-11 Open Grand Finals held 21st September 2022 at the Dapitan City Cultural Complex in Zamboanga del Norte. Visit chess-results.com.

The 11 years old Reyes, a Grade 6 pupil of Santa Rita College, Santa Rita, Pampanga under the guidance of sportsman/businessman Jake Carlos, School Principal Eugene Lansang and Class Adviser Marites Reyes collected 9.5 points in eleven outings.

Reyes scored victories over Ran Zeth Marco Magallanes in the first round, Christian Tolosa in the second round, Ronell Jose Co in the third round, Sebastian Marbas in the fourth round,  Nil Jeschel Nahbi Gamba in the fifth round, Jaden Cedric Abesamis in the seventh round, Jan Reo Serenuela in the eight round, Pat Ferdolf Macabulos in the ninth round and Jan Calvin Abesamis in the tenth round.

He split the point with Mar Aviel Carredo in the eleventh and final round. His setbacks were at the hands of Aaron Aton in the sixth round.

With his latest feat, Reyes pocketed the top prize of P5,000 plus trophy in this eight-day event sponsored by Dapitan City Mayor Seth Frederick “Bullet” Jalosjos.
