Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage of Ananda College (above left), Reigning National Chess Champions and Susal De Silva of Nalanda College (right) got into the Finals after they beat Isuru Alahakoon and CMS Praneith Kumara respectively yesterday. Ranindu beat Isuru 2-0 and Susal beat Praneith 2-0 convincingly at the Semifinals.
Ranindu will meet Susal in the finals while Isuru Alahakoon (Sri Lanka Navy) will meet CMS Praneeth Kumara(USJP Chess Club) at the Consolation finals today.
The Inaugural Sri Lanka Online National Chess Championships 2021 is conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka o the time control of 15mminutes+ 10 seconds on the Tornelo Platform. The event was held in four stages where a Novices Division was held in 7 regions, Major division in 6 regions and premier Division as qualification for final stage I. The Premier Division was held with the best 16 players in a round robin basis (15 rounds) to find the 4 semi finalists. The Finals and consolation finals will be held today starting at 5.00 p.m.\
A total prize find of Rs. 180,000/= is offered by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka for the event. The top players will be selected for the Sri Lanka National Online Chess team for the next year.
The event was live streamed by former National Chess Champion Dulan Edirisinghe throughout. The Finals will also be livestreamed from 5,00 p,m today.
