Vietnamese IM Le Tuan Minh won the men’s division while compatriot IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen won the women’s division in the SEA Games Blitz Individual Chess Championship held 20th May 2022 in Ha Long City, Vietnam. IM Tin Jingyao topped the 5-round Swiss preliminaries in a tie with four others at 3.5 points each before going into the knockout semifinal and final matches.
The Semifinals paired IM Le Tuan Minh of Vietnam vs. GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia and GM Le Quang Liem of Vietnam vs. IM Tin Jingyao of Singapore.
In the final, the first game was drawn then Le Tuan Minh won the second game to win gold. Le Quang Liem won silver while Tin and Megaranto received bronze medals.
In the Women’s division, WIM Chelsie Sihite of Indonesia topped the Swiss preliminaries with 4.5 points followed by WGM Janele Mae Frayna of the Philippines with 4 points, Pham Le Thao Nguyen with 3.5 points and WGM Gong Qianyun of Singapore with 3 points,
The Semifinals paired Chelsie Sihite vs Gong Qianyun and Janelle May Frayna with Pham Le Thao Nguyen.
In the finals the first game was drawn then Pham Le Thao Nguyen won the second game for the gold medal. Chelsie Sihite won the silver medal while Janelle Mae Frayna and Gong Qianyun received bronze medals.
