ASIAN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP 2026: ROUND 5

Round 5 of the Asian Chess Championship 2026 has concluded, with the battle for the top positions becoming increasingly intense.

In the Open section, Russian Grandmaster Zhamsaran Tsydypov leads the standings alone with 4.5 points. In the Women’s section, Uzbekistan’s Woman Grandmaster Afruza Khamdamova and International Master Gulrukhbegim Tokhirjonova share the lead with 4.5 points each.

The ceremonial first move of Round 5 was made by Professor D. Shagdarsuren, Founder and Advisor of Nomin Holding LLC, one of the tournament’s sponsors.

Grandmaster D. Batsuren, Mongolia’s highest-rated chess player, joined the live broadcast as a special guest and provided professional commentary for the audience throughout the round.

The longest game of Round 5 was played in the Open section between CM G. Zev and FM Kirill Putrinko. Their marathon encounter lasted 6 hours and 25 minutes before ending in a draw.

As the tournament progresses, the race for qualification spots to the FIDE World Cup continues to intensify.
