Round 6 of the Asian Individual Chess Championship 2026 has concluded, with the race for the top positions becoming even more intense.
In the Open section, Russian Grandmaster Zhamsaran Tsydypov, playing with the white pieces on Board 1, defeated Iran’s young Grandmaster Sinag Movahed to maintain sole first place with 5.5 points.
In the Women’s section, Board 1 featured an exciting all-Uzbekistan clash. Grandmaster Afruza Khamdamova emerged victorious and remains at the top of the standings with a half-point lead over her closest pursuers.
The ceremonial first moves of Round 6 were made by Mongolia’s eight-time national champion Grandmaster B. Khatanbaatar, Chief Arbiter and International Category A Arbiter Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh, President of Golomt Bank G. Ganbold, and Director of Corporate Banking at Golomt Bank B. Sugar-Erdene.
This round also highlighted some of the tournament’s brightest young talents. In the Open section, 11-year-old Russian FIDE Master Roman Shogdzhiev, reigning World Youth Champion, continues to compete among the top five players. In the Women’s section, 15-year-old Chinese Woman FIDE Master Gao Muziyan, the 2025 World Youth Under-18 Girls Champion, is also currently ranked within the top five.
With only a few rounds remaining, the battle for the championship titles continues.
