Round 8 of the Asian Individual Chess Championship 2026 has concluded, and the race for the championship title has reached its climax.
The ceremonial first moves of Round 8 were made by Mr. S. Boldkhet, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Naran Trade LLC, the General Sponsor of the event; Mr. J. Galbadrakh, Vice President of the Mongolian Chess Federation and Member of Parliament; Mr. O. Khurelbaatar, President of the Mongolian Bankers Association; and Mr. L. Amar, Executive Director of the Association.
Following Round 8, the Open Section is jointly led by China’s IM Kong Xiangrui, GM Xiao Tong, and Russia’s GM Zhamsaran Tsydypov, all with 6.5 points.
In the Women’s Section, Uzbekistan’s WGM Afruza Khamdamova, India’s IM Savitha Shri B, and China’s WIM Gao Muziyan share the lead with 6.5 points each.
With only one round remaining, it is impossible to predict who will emerge as the new Asian Champion. In both the Open and Women’s sections, three players are tied for first place, setting the stage for a thrilling final-round showdown.
Who will hold their nerve in the decisive moments? Who will overcome the pressure and seize the coveted continental title? The final round promises intense battles and unforgettable drama as players compete for the crown of Asian Champion.
