Asian Players in Sochi for FIDE World Cup

Sri Lankan National Chess Champion Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage is participating in the FIDE Chess World Cup 2021 being the first Sri Lankan player to compete in the most prestigious Chess event in the World. Ranindu met the Hon. Minister Namal Rajapakse before his departure.

It seems life works mysteriously despite experiencing challenges along the way of the journey. We can still smile, laugh and be optimistic.

Yesterday, WGM Janelle Mae Frayna and myself arrived in Mercure Hotel in Sochi, Russia at around 5pm ( 10 pm Phil Time) After having an ordeal of 27 hours of travel because of too many delays in flight from Manila to Doha Qatar, also from Moscow to Sochi.

And worst of all, our luggage got lost. reason for us last night to buy some clothes and personal stuff (about 2-3 pieces) as FIDE requires no exception, otherwise no play that every participants must wear formal dress and attire during the game of the championship.

Once again, We want to thank Philippine Sports Commission under the leadership of Chairman William Ramirez be together with it’s commissioners, FEU Chairman Aurelio Montinola III and Cong Elpidio Barzaga Jr, who financially funded this competition.
