
GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen of Vietnam won gold medals in the Men’s and Women’s Individual Rapid Chess Championship, respectively, of the Southeast Asian Games 16-17 May 2022 in Ha Long Bay, Vietnam. Visit chess-results.com for round by round results and to download games.
Truong Son beat GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia in the Semifinals then drew 2:2 with IM Tin Jingyao of Singapore in the Final. In the sudden death playoff, Truong Son won in 50 moves of a Queen’s Pawn game below. IM Tin Jingyao (above left) won the silver medal while Megaranto and Setyaki won bronze medals.

In the women’s division, IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen beat WCM Sim Jia Ru of Malaysia then drew 2:2 with WGM Gong Qianyun of Singapore. In the sudden death playoff, Pham won in 45 moves of a Reti, King’s Indian Attack. Gong (above left) won the silver medal while WCM Sim and WIM Bach Ngoc Thy Duong won bronze medals.
