Grebnev Grabs Solo Lead in Asian Juniors. Shukman and Sneha Lead Girls

GM Aleksey Grebnev (above, standing) watches other games in round 3 of the Asian Juniors Chess Championship at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City, Philippines.

He beat Yash Bharadia of India to grab solo lead with 3 points after as many rounds. Grebnev, Russian playing under FIDE flag, used the Petroff Defense to win in 45 moves. Five players share second slot with 2.5 points each, namely IM Michael Concio and FM Christian Gian Karlo Arca of Philippines, IM Krishna rohith of India, IM Artem Uskov of Russia playing under FIDE flag, and IM Munkhdalai Amilal of Mongolia.

A total of 30 juniors and 22 girls are participating from thirteen countries, namely Guam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Russia under FIDE flag, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and host Philippines. The event is hosted by the Tagaytay Chess Club under the auspices of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, Asian Chess Federation and International Chess Federation in cooperation with the City of Tagaytay, Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee.

In the girls’ division, WIM Anna Shukhman (photo above) and Halder Sneha of India (below, right) share the lead with 3 points each. Eight players follow with 2 points apiece, namely top seed WIM G. Tejaswini, WFM V Rindhiya, WFM Guptan Shubhi and Dhanashree Khairmode of India, Luong Hoang Tu Linh of Vietnam, Ainul Mardhiah Mohd Afif of Malaysia and WIM Zeinep Sultanbek and WFM Kristina Popandopulo of Kazakhstan.
