IM Michael Concio Jr. Wins Lichess Bullet Tournament

MANILA, PHilippines—International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, Cavitewon the Marguel Soria Jr. Bullet Online Chess Celebration on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at lichess.org.

Concio beat Ryan Concepcion in the final round to tally 99 points to win the one-day event, using the 1 minute plus 1 second time control format, organized by Bayanihan Chess Club.

Concio, one of the top players of Dasmarinas Chess Academy put up by Cong. Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga Jr. and national coach FIDE Master Roel Abelgas will also be representing the Philippines in the FIDE World Cup 2021 set from July 10 to August 6, 2021 in Sochi, Russia.

Kevin Arquero of Pasay City came second with 93 points followed by third placer FIDE Master David Elorta of Manila who totes 89 points.

Rounding up the top 10 were 4th: National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (75 pts.), 5th:  National Master Elwin Retanal of Cebu (74 pts.), 6th FIDE Master Roel Abelgas of Dasmarinas City,  Cavite (72 pts.),  7th: National Master Merben Roque of Cebu (68 pts.), 8th: Grandmaster Darwin Laylo of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (67 pts.), 9th: Arena Grandmaster Henry Roger Lopez of Panabo City of Davao del Norte(66 pts.) and 10th FIDE Master Sander Severino of Silay City, Negros Occidental (65 pts.).
