
WFM Mitra Asgharzadeh of Iran grabbed solo lead of the Asian-Oceania University Chess Championship on Tornelo. The tournament is hosted by the Iran University Sports Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and Asian University Sports Federation and in cooperation with the International Chess Federation (FIDE), FISU-Oceania and the Iran Chess Federation.
Asgharzadeh has a perfect 6 points out of as many rounds in this 9-round Swiss System tournament. Compoatiot WIM Alinasab Mobina follows in second slot with 5 points. Two Chinese players Zhang Lanlin and Chen Yanting share third slot at 4.5 points each. See table below.
Thirty-two players from ten countries are competing in the Rapid chess 9-round Swiss system tournament, namely Bhutan, China, Indonesia, India, Jordan, Mongolia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Syria and host Iran. Only University students between the ages of 17 and 28 are allowed to participate.
The tournament is a combined individual and team event with 9 rounds of the Swiss System. Players from the same team will not be paired with each other. Team results will be calculated by the total scores of the top four (4) players of a team. Iran leads the team race with 18.5 points followed by Indonesia with 14.5 points and India with 13 points..

The Men’s event will be held 21st-23rd December. Time control is 15 minutes plus 10 second increments per move for the entire game.
