Vietnam, Philippines and Malaysia won ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship Team Awards. Over 500 players from nine countries participated, namely Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam. The tournament was organized by the Asian Chess Federation and hosted by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines from 19-21 April 2022 on Tornelo. Vietnam children dominated the ASEAN Age Group Online Chess Championships winning 9 gold medals while Philippines garnered 2 golds in the boys and Malaysia won gold in the girls division. Visit chess-results.com for round by round standings and to download games.

The tournaments were 9-round Swiss system events except for Under-16 girls which was a 9-round Round Robin. Time control was 15 minutes plus increment of 10 seconds per move starting from move 1. Games were played on Tornelo and Fair Play rules were strictly implemented.

Le Anh Tu (VIE) leads with 5.5 points in the boys under-10

Ivan Travis Cu of the Philippines and Dang Anh Minh of Vietnam are neck and neck with 5.5 points each in the boys under-14

Prin Laohawirapap of Thailand and John Jerish Velarde of the Philippines are tied for the lead with 5 points each in the boys under-16

Poh Yu Tian of Malaysia leads alone with 5.5 points in the Boys Under-18

Truong Mi Na of Vietnam is alone with 6 points in the girls Under-8

Nguyen Minh Chi (VIE) is alone with 5.5 points in the girls under-10

Vyanla Punsalan is the 2022 NZ Women’s Champion

WFM Vyanla Punsalan claimed the title with a perfect score of 7.0/7 in the 7-round tournament which was held from April 17 to April 20. WCM Isabelle Ning and Weiyang Yu shared the second place on 5.0/7. The full list of prize winners is on the Results page.

Sri Lanka National Open and Women’s Chess Championship 2022

 

The Sri Lanka National Chess Championships 2022 (Open & women’s) will be held on 23rd, 24th 25th, 28th, 29th , 30th of April and  1st of May 2022 at the Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research Institute, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 07. The events are 13 round, Round Robin events and the selection events for the Sri Lanka National Men & Women Teams for the FIDE Chess Olympiad 2022(Top five players) and the Asian Games 2022 (If the Olympic Committee confirms Chess I the team).

The National Chess Champion, Susal De Silva and the SL Number 1 ranked (over 2300), Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage will play as direct entries in the Open event. Unfortunately, the Women’s National Chess Champion, Tharushi Niklesha and Harshana Thilakarathne (Over 2300) has withdrawn her from the right of play due to academic reasons.

So, 1st twelve players of the Sri Lanka National (Premier Division) .Chess Championship 2022 and the top 14 players of the Sri Lanka Women’s National (Premier Division) Chess Championship 2022 are eligible to play in the event.

MARCEL Invitational International Rating Chess Tournament-2022

The Marcel Invitational International Rating Chess Tournament, sponsored by Walton Hi-Tech Industries plc and organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation, started today (Tuesday) at the Sports Room of Bangladesh Chess Federation.

The inauguration ceremony was held in the ground floor Conference room of the National Sports Council. FM Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), Senior Executive Director, Walton Group, inaugurated the competition as the Chief Guest. Masudur Rahman Mallick Dipu, Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation and Md. Haroon Or Rashid, International Chess Arbiter gave speeches spoke on the occasion. Total 56 players including one international master, 5 FIDE masters are participating in the event.

Md. Shariatullah of Sonali Wins Walton U-2000 Rating Tournament

Md. Shariatullah of Sonali Bank Sports and Recreation Club became unbeaten champion in the of the Walton (U-2000 Rating) International Rating Chess Tournament sponsored by Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC in collaboration with Bangladesh Chess Federation and organised by Manha’s Castle which was held at Manha’s Castle Hall-Room, R H Home Center, 74 Green Road, Dhaka. Sariatullah earned maximum 7 points out of 7 games to clinch the title.

Sk. Rashedul Hasan became runner-up with 6 points. Four players earned 5½ points each. In the tie-breaking system among them Jodunath Biswas of Shahnoor Khan Smirity Sangsad became 3rd, A. B. Bappi of Palli Sanchay Bank became 4th, Md. Sajidul Haque became 5th and Moniruzzaman Moni became 6th. Nine players earned 5 points each. In tie-breaking system amon them Abdul Momin became 7th and Sarwar Hossain Ullash became 8th. Special prizes are: Over 50: Md Abdur Rauf, Rating Category 1001 to 1599 Md. Moinuddin and Syed Mahbubur Rashid, best woman Neelava Choudhury, best unrated Kazi Moshiqur Rahman and best Under-12 Siam Chowdhury.

The prize giving ceremony was held at the same place after the games. F M Iqbal Bin Anwar (Dawn), Senior Executive Director, Walton Hi-Tech Industries PLC, distributed prizes among the winners as chief guest. Mr. Lokman Hossain Mollah (Lavlu) President of Manha’s Castle presided over the ceremony. Mr. Masudur Rahman Mallick Dipu, Joint Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation and International Arbiter Mr. Md Haroon Or Rashid were present as special guests. Mr. Parag Arman, Sports Editor of ANT-Bangla and CM Sohel Chowdhury, General Secretary of Manha’s Castle gave speeches in the ceremony. The event was held in a 7 round Swiss-League system and 84 players participated. Total fifty-thousand-taka cash prizes and fifty thousand taka WALTON gifts given to winners.

FIDE Arbiters Workshop (Arabic)

A FIDE Arbiters Online Workshop in Arabic was held 14th to 16th April 2022 on Zoom.

The Asian Chess Federation Academy organized it under the auspices of the FIDE Arbiters Commission. The Workshop had free entry for all participants.

The opening session was attended by Laurent Freyd (Chairman of the FIDE Arbiters Commission).

The Workshop was conducted by FIDE Lecturers IA Abdulrahim Mahdi (UAE), IA Omar Salama (ISL) and IA Hassan Khaled (EGY).

The Workshop was moderated by Hisham Al Taher, UAE (Asian Chess Federation General Secretary), and the organizing committee members were IA Casto Abundo, PHI (ACF Executive Director), and IA Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh, IRI (Rules Commission Secretary).

The Language of the Workshop was Arabic.

Daily lectures were from 13.00-17.00 Dubai Time (+4 GMT).  The total sessions were (12) Hours.

Seventy-One (71) participants attended from Seventeen (17) Arab Federations, (Males: 59 – Females: 12). There were thirty-Three (33) from Arab Africa, and Thirty-Eight (38) from Arab Asia. There were from:

BRN(2), IRQ(14), JOR(1), KSA(4), KUW(1), LBN(2), OMA(1), PLE(1), SYR(3), UAE(1), YEM(1), ALG(3), EGY(13), LBA(9), MAR(6), SUD(5), and TUN(4).

Sri Lanka Arbiters Seminar Series Marks Golden Jubilee 1972-2022

As part of CFSLs Golden Jubilee Celebration program, the Sri Lanka Arbiters Commission has organized another seminar in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Chess in Jaffna was affected a lot due to the Civil war held for 30 years till 2009 and is now developing little by little.
The seminar was conducted by the most senior International Arbiter in Sri Lanka, Mr. Thiwanka Tissera, with the participation of 25 new Arbiters.
