Asian Chess Federation Workshop for Online Tournaments

Asian Chess Federation conducted a Workshop for Online Tournaments 18-21 October 2021 on Zoom. The event is supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission.

Lecturers were FIDE Arbiters Commission Honorary Chairman IA Takis Nikolopoulos, FIDE Rules Commission and Asian Chess Federation Arbiters Commission Chairman Abdulrahim Mahdi, FIDE Rules Commission Secretary Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh and Asian Chess Federation Executive Director Casto Abundo.

Subjects included Host Internet Platform and Zoom management, Online Chess Arbitration and Fair Play Regulations, Online Chess Regulations and How to Organize Online Chess Tournaments.

The following participants passed the exam and will be presented Certificates as Asian Chess Federation Certified Online Arbiter.

India, Kazakhstan, Vietnam Top Asian Youth Girls Championships

India won the over-all championship in the 2021 Asian Youth Online Girls Chess Championships held 22-24 October 2021 on Tornelo by the Asian Chess Federation in association with the All India Chess Federation.

Indian girls won 2 golds, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Kazakhstan also got 2 gold medals but was relegated to second with only 2 silver medals. The gold and silver medal of Vietnam enabled them to get the 3rd place edging 4th placer Iran with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals. China and Sri Lanka both took home a bronze medal.

A record number of 891 players from Australia, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazkhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam participated in the event.

The Sheikh Russell International Grand Masters Chess Competition is held under the auspices of Saif Powertech Limited and organized by Bangladesh Chess Federation.

Thirteen players are sharing 2nd position with 4½ points each. They are: GM Asadli Vugar, GM Iskandarov Misratdin and GM Rasulov Vugar of Azerbaijan, GM Bernadskiy Vitaliy and GM Andrey Sumets of Ukraine, GM Mosadeghpour Masoud and IM Mousavi Seyed Khalil of Iran, GM G A Stany, GM N R Vishak, GM Shyem Sundar, IM Aditya Mittal, IM Mitrabha Guha of India and GM Haznedaroglu Kivanc of Turkey. Among Bangladeshi players GM Ziaur Rahman earned 4 points, GM Ziaur Rahman, GM Enamul Hossain Razib and IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman earned 3½ points each.

IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman won against GM Ulvi Sadikhov of Azerbaijan in the 5th round games in the Sheikh Russel International Grand Masters Chess Competition-2021 now being held at Dilkusha Hall of Hotel Purbani in Dhaka on the occasion of birth anniversary of Shahid Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

IM Fahad Rahman played with white pieces against King’s Indian Defense of GM Sadikhov and won at 41 moves.

GM Srinath Narayanan of India and GM Mosadeghpour Masoud of Iran are now jointly leads in the points table with 4½points each after 5th round games.

Leaders After 6 rounds of Asian Youth Online Chess Championships for Girls

WCM Bristy Mukherjee of India defeated 3rd round leader Thao Tam Ngiem of Vietnam and drew with Iranian Saina Salonika to score 5 points after 6 rounds. She shares the lead with Tina Karami of Iran who won her last three games. Three players, Thao Tham Nghem (VIE), Maika Mohammadi (IRI) and Tran Gia Thu Pham (VIE) are a half point behind,

Girls Under 16
Indias WIM Divya Desmukh defeated erstwhile co-leaders Nikko Abbaspoorrad (IRI) and WFM Xeniya Balabayeva to gain solo lead with 5.5 points. Four players are tied for 2nd – 5th place; Nikoo Abbaspoorad (IRI), Bhagyashree Patil (IND), Saniya Rafique Tadavi (IRI) and Hong Nhung Nguyen (VIE).

Girls Under 14k
WCM Nu Quynh Duong Ton of Vietnam and Saparya Ghosh of India both won their last three assignments and share the lead with 5 ½ points after six rounds. 3rd to 5th place is shared by three players with 5 points.

Competition in the Girls under-12 remains tight as 8 players scored 5 points followed closely by 7 players with 4.5 points


Girls Under 10
Second seed Rosha Akbari and 4th seed Sana Shadanpour, both from Iran, defeated their last three opponents and shares the lead with 51/2 points. They will play each other in the next round and try to keep their distance from 7 other players who are clos behind with 5 points.

Girls Under 8
Two Indian girls Sanhita Pungavanam and Ananya Rajan P share the lead with Iranian Ava Mokhtari with five and a half points out of a possible 6. Sharing 4th – 6th place with 5 points are Shree Pooja (IND), Mirzakhani Bahar (IRI) and Shiyang Peng of China.

Asian Online Youth Chess Championships has started with Girls Division

The 2021 Asian Online Youth Chess Championships has started with 3 rounds played on Friday for Girls Under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18. Girls under 18

After three rounds,  14th seed Nghiem Thao Tam of Vietnam was the only unbeaten players with 3 points after defeating top seed WIM Nurgali Nazerke of Kazakhstan in the 2nd round and 6th seed WFM Chuemsakul Sarocha of Thailand in the 3rd round. Six players scored 2.5 points lead by 4th seed Jalali Saba (IRI) and 1oth seed WCM Pham Tran Gia Thu (VIE).

Girls Under 16

Four players, Abbaspoorrad Nikoo (IRI), WIM Deshmukh Divya (IND), Sun Jihan (CHN) and WFM Patil Bhagyashree (IND) won their three matches to take an early lead girls under 16. My Hanh An Nguyen (VIE) defeated top seed Balabayeva Xeniya (KAZ) in the 2nd round to share 5th to 8th place with WFM Patel Dhyana (IND), K Ratnapriya (IND), and Gupta Anushka of India.

Girls Under 14

Top seed Ngo Minh Hang of Vietnam garnered a perfect 3 points to share the lead with 5 other players; Kumawat Dakshita (IND), Baldanjantsan Khuslenzaya (MGL), WCM Sanudula K M Dahamdi (SRI) and Hajatniya Reyhaneh (IRI).

Girls Under 12

Seven players amass 3 points to share the lead after three rounds, lead by 2nd seed Nguyen Kim Ngan Hau of Vietnam and 3rd seed Kaliakhmet Elnaz of Kazakhstan.

Girls Under 10

Surprisingly, only the 10th seed Zarkym Ailin of Kazakshtan was the highest seed to score 3 points. She shared the lead with 13th seed Tong Thai Hoang An (VIE), Altynbek Aiaru (KAZ), Erdenesaikhan Zol-Uchral (MGL), Beminiwatte A W M Arundi (SRI) and 85th seed N Pavithra of India.

Girls Under 8

In the Girls under 8 category 10 girls shared the lead including 4th seed Sholpanbek Zhansaya of Kazakhstan and 5th seed Rastgar Arshida of Iran.

The Sri Lanka Girls Youth Chess contingent is competing in the Asian Youth Online Girls Chess Championships 2021. The National Youth girls Chess team, which consists of 17 female Chess players of 3 players each from under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 ages are selected from the Sri Lanka Youth Age Group Chess Championships 2021 of under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18, Open and Girls. Dr Muhammad Ayoub wins Pakistan National Rapid Chess Championship

Balochistan Chess Association, in collaboration with Chess Federation of Pakistan, Balochistan Sports Board, Pakistan Sports Board and Ministry of Sports & Youth Affairs Balochistan, has organized the biggest Chess event till date in the province with the support from Browne Gymkhana, Pakistan Educational Foundation and Balochistan Cricket Board. The historic event was named in sweat memories of Malik Gul Hassan Kasi.

In the mega event “First Malik Gul Hassan Kasi Memorial All Pakistan Rapid Chess Championship” 112 players from all over the country participated, in which 41 players were FIDE Rated, which is a record in the country.

In the opening ceremony games were initiated between Secretary Sports & Youth affairs Govt of Balochistan Imran Gichki and President BCA MPA Mir Akther hussain Langove, along with ex-Speaker/Governor Balochistan Madam Rahila Hameed Durrani and Vice-president CFP Amin Malik.

Mr. Imran Gichki appreciated the continuous efforts of Balochistan chess association in promotion of the game and ensured his support in every possible way with BCA.

Madam Rahila Hameed Durrani, elected as Chief Patron of the association, showed her gratitude and welcomed the participants from all over the country, including healthy participation from women players from other provinces.

In the 9 Rounds Swiss system Rapid Championship, all eyes were over the game of Dr Muhammad Ayoub (winner of last four events and winning 6/8 event this year) and Muhammad Younis Malghani (Current Balochistan Champion). The game was a high class encounter in Neo-Grunfeld, where Dr Muhammad Ayoub won the middle game battle.

Young 11 year old Rehan Khan Nasir (South Asian Gold Medalist) stood tenth in open category with classy wins over senior players, with clear first in Juniors, while Syeda Aliza from Lahore scored first in women.
Cash Prizes, trophies and Medals distributed in top 15, while Certificate of appreciation given to all participants.

In the 11 Round Swiss system “Malik Gul Hassan Kasi memorial All Pakistan Blitz Chess Championship” Mr Tariq Mughal from Karachi showcased amazing Blitz skills and won the event with perfect score of 11/11. Muhammad Younis Malghani stood second while Amin Malik got third place.

All participanst were provided with transport allowance, clean AC rooms for accommodation and Lunch and refreshments during both events.

Dr Muhammad Ayoub General Secretary BCA appreciated the marvelous zeal of the Chess Community and the extreme hard work of Tournament director Prof Syed Wasee Akther and Chief Arbiter Muhammad Siddique, whom worked truly hard to make this event a huge success. He acknowledged that this largest event in the history of province (number of participants) and the biggest till date tournament in the history of the country (number of FIDE Rated players) and the first and only event in the history where all participanst were given proper transport allowance for both sides as well as accommodation in  clean AC rooms, was only possible because of full support of Senior VP BCA Malik Anwer Saleem Kasi and guidance of Afzal Mengal and Yousuf Baloch. We are really thankful to all participants from all over the country and to Amin Malik and Kamran Qureshi for their participation and every possible support to make it an historic event. We are thankful to the time and personal interest of Secretary Sports and Youth affair Balochistan, Imran Gichki for supporting and promoting the event and devoting his time as Chief Guest in the event. Inaugural Sri Lanka Online Rapid National Chess Championship Cycle 2021

The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is organizing a comprehensive Online Rapid Chess Championship Cycle for the first time in Sri Lanka This event will be the selection event for the International Online Rapid Chess Championships this year and the event will help all Chess players to stay at home at this difficult time with supporting to grow their Chess Strength. The event will be held on the Chess.com platform with all the fair play regulations approved by FIDE. The Time Control is 15 minutes + 10 second increment for each move played.

The Basic qualification stages of Novices Division and the Major Divisions are over. There were 7 events each as open and Women in Novices Division while 6 events each at the Major Division.

Online SL National (Premier Division) Chess Championship 2021 –Women

Now the time is for the final Swiss System event of 9 rounds. All qualified from Major Division and players having more 1599 rating are eligible to participate in the Women event. The first 16 players will be qualified to the Online National Chess Championship 2021 – Finals since the National Chess Champion has declared that she is not available for the event.

The Women’s Championship will be held on 29th, 30th and 31st of October starting 5.00 p.m. each day with three rounds a day. A total of 9 rounds will be played if the number of players are less than 100.

Entry Fees

The Entries should be made before 3 days to the scheduled day of the event to the following google sheet.

Players can use only Laptops or Desktop with a webcam to play the games. In all times of play in progress, players should join in the zoom meeting with the screen and task Manager shared with the tournament arbiters. The Technical Regulations will be sent to the registered players individually.

All fare play measures are taken during the event and the games after each round will be sent to the Chess.com and FIDE experts for fare play checking. If any player found guilty in any form of these checking, he/ she shall be removed from the event and all his games are made null and void. If in a strict situation, the player will be banned from all types of Chess for 2 years.

We kindly request all Chess players to compete the event in true sportsmanship and develop you Chess skills even during this Pandemic situation. You may be a part of the Sri Lanka National Online Chess Teams as well.
