Asian Women’s Continental Online Chess Championship Starts

The Asian Women’s Online Chess Championship has started with 74 players from 15 countries competing for the Asian Continental slot in the FIDE Women;s Grand Swiss this October in Riga, Latvia. Top seed is IM Irene Sukandar of Indonesia. Nine WGMs, 8 IMs, 22 WIMs, 13 WFMs and 5 WCMs are participating.

The Bangladesh Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF), has the honor to invite all national federations to participate in the Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal Invitational International O

The Shahid Captain Sheikh Kamal Invitational International Online Chess Tournament 2020 is an individual invitational championship and shall be governed by the FIDE Online Chess Regulations.

Each federation can register any number of GM’s and one IM/Rated. All players must have FIDE ID & Tornelo Account before registration.

Time control is Rapid Play – Each player shall have 15 minutes for the game with the addition of 5 seconds per move starting from the first move. The clocks of all games shall be started by the Chief Arbiter.

A total of $10,000 in cash prizes shall be at stake as follows:

1st-$ 2000, 2nd-$1500, 3rd-$1000, 4th-$600, 5th-500, 6th-400, 7th-400, 8th-$300, 9th-$300 and 10th-$300, 11th-$200

Juniors Join Professional Chess Association of the Phlippines League

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino juniors Lexie Grace Hernandez, April Joy Claros, Tiv Omangay, Christian Erickson Costuna, Gabrielle Nuqui and Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes will test their mettle in the third conference of the Professional Chess Players Association of the Philippines-PCAP online chess tournament set September 15, 2021 on virtually held in Chess.com Platform.
Other Pampanga players invited as guests if the Pampanga Checkers squad are Joseph Raphael Vergara and Karl Richard Ballobar.

Backed up by Mr. Jaime “Jimmy” Reyes and Mr. Jake “Talov” Carlos, the Pampanga Checkers squad also tapped the services of Mr. Martin Tan (Head Senior), Mr. Robert Halili (Coach), NM Louie Pablo (Coach) and Mr. Archimedes Miranda de Leon (Team Manager).

Regidor Qualifies into KO stage of the FIDE Online Rapid World Cadets & Youth chess championship

MANILA, Philippines—Woman National Master Kaye Lalaine Regidor of Santa Rosa City, Laguna booked her ticket to the Knock Out Stage for the FIDE Online Rapid World Cadets & Youth chess championship on August 26 to 31, 2021 virtually held at Tornelo Platform.

The 12 years old Regidor, a Grade 6 student of Rizal Dila Elementary School Santa Rosa City, Laguna placed tenth with 7.5 points on Saturday.

Regidor, playing under the guidance of Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez scored victories over Enkhsaikhan Odmaa of Mongolia in the first round, Keilyn Elizabeth Duque Roca of Guatemala in the second round, Ariadni Papetta in the third round, Mireya Jassly Sanchez Cruz in the fifth round, WCM Enerel Ariunbold of Mongolia in the sixth round, Manasvi Sanikommu of India in the seventh round and Dang Le Xuan Hien of Vietnam in the tenth and final round.

She split the point with Gurvanbaatar Urangoo of Mongolia in the eight round. She lost to Elvin Esma Buyuk of Turkey in the fourth round and Mireya Jassly Sanchez Cruz of Peru in the fifth round.

Meanwhile, 22nd place Bonjoure Fille Suyamin of General Trias City, Cavite (7 pts.) and 74th place Glydel Janine Rodrigo of Cebu City (5 pts.) failed to advance in the knock out stage.

Anastasia Kirtadze of Georgia topped Girls 12 and under class with 9 points.

Filipino Chester Neil Reyes Wins FIDE Online World Cadets, Qualifies to K.O. stage

MANILA, Philippines—Chester Neil Reyes produced impressive results at the FIDE Online Rapid World Cadets & Youth online chess championship Open 16 and under virtually held at Tornelo Platform to earn a berth at the knockout stage.

The 89th seed Reyes (Elo 1837), incoming Grade 11 pupil of Nazareth School of National University drew with third seed International Master Christopher Woojin Yoo (Elo 2466) of the USA after 41 moves of a Sicilian defense, Closed variation using the white pieces in Friday’s ninth and penultimate round then made a quick draw with 11th seed FIDE Master Maksim Tsaruk (Elo 2324) of Belarus after 10 moves of a Vienna Opening using the white pieces in Saturday’s tenth and final round to claim the title with 8.5 points.

“I thank those you helped me, Coach Richard A. Villaseran of King’s Gambit, GM Nelson Mariano, Arden at Narquingel Reyes and the UNASA and NU chess families under the tutelage of Team Manager Samson Go and NU coach US master Jojo Aquino and coach Jelvis Calvelo, sir Martin Binky Gaticales and Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe,” said the amiable Reyes.

“I’m so happy for Chester Neil (Reyes). Well deserved championship for him. This breakthrough will be a very big confidence booster for him and I’m sure bigger things are  ahead of him,” said Coach Richard Villaseran, founder of King’s Gambit Chess School, where Reyes trains from time to time who watched the game live thru Tornelo Platform.

Another Filipino entry 106th seed Jeremy Marticio (Elo 1693) defeated 48th seed Swarnavo Choudhury (Elo 2079) of Bangladesh after 41 moves of Sicilian defense in the final canto to finish with 7 points, good for a tie 15th to 24th places.

The pride of Cabuyao City, Laguna Marticio suffered a stinging defeat in Friday’s ninth round to drop out of contention. Marticio yielded to 14th seed FIDE Master Samant Aditya S  (Elo 2297) of India after 50 moves of Ruy Lopez Opening using the black pieces.

The 130th seed Megan Althea bowed to 37th seed Aadhya Jain of India. Paragua scored 7.5 points, enough to qualify for the Knockout stage through the prestigious, 10-round tournament considered as the biggest in the world which attracted 151 woodpushers.

Aadhya Jain, on the other hand scored 9.5 points to top the FIDE rapid tournament using the 10 minutes plus 3 second increment time control format.

Kolagatla Alana Meenakshi of India settled for second place with 9 points followed by third placer Le Thai Hoang Anh of Vietnam who totes 8 points.

Meanwhile, three Philippines representative failed to advance in the knock out stage. They are 33rd place Jemaica Yap Mendoza (6 pts.), 43rd place Aeiona Lou Tomas Mendoza (6 pts.) and 71st place ACM Daniella Bianca Cruz (5 pts.)

MANILA, Philippines—Chester Neil Reyes (Elo 1837) of the Philippines scored two more victories to grab the solo lead in the on-going FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth online chess championship Open 16 and under virtually held at Tornelo Platform.

The 89th seed Reyes, the pride of Rodriguez, Rizal province shocked 4th seed International Master (IM) Denis Lazavik (Elo 2440) of Belarus in 47 moves of a King’s Indian defense in Thursday’s seventh round and checkmated 13th seed FIDE Master (FM) Rohith Krishna S (Elo 2304) of India in 45 moves of King’s Indian defense in Friday’s eight round to stay unbeaten.

With the win, Reyes tallied 7.5 points on seven wins and one draw with 2 rounds to go.

Antonio, Frayna, Severino, favorites in GM Rosendo Balinas online chess tournament

MANILA, Philippines—Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. , Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna and FIDE Master (FM) Sander Severino are among the favorites in the P100,000 free registration GM/Atty. Rosendo Carreon Balinas Jr. Online Chess Tournament (open division) on Sept. 26, 2021 at lichess.org.

The 13-time Philippine champion Antonio, is best remembered for his second-place effort in the 2017 World Seniors held in Acqui Terme, topped the Aliwaros Arena on August 13 while the former Far Eastern University chess team mainstay Frayna achieved her final norm to become eligible for the title of Woman Grandmaster in the 42nd Chess Olympiad held in September 2016. This title was later confirmed by the Presidential Board by written resolution in early 2017 and became the Philippines’ first woman grandmaster.

The  Silay, Negros Occidental ace Severino clinched the International Physically Disabled Chess Association (IPCA) World Online Chess Rapid Championship title becoming the first player representing the Philippines to do so last June 2020 also set to fight for his place in P100,000 free registration tournament, hosted by US based frontliner Dr. Joe Balinas and Engr. Antonio “Uncle Paps” Balinas, both founding honorary chairman of the organizing Bayanihan Chess Club.

Also playing are International Masters Ricardo de Guzman, Barlo Nadera and Emmanuel Senador.
Others are National Masters Cesar Mariano, Merben Roque, Carlos Edgardo Garma, Jake dela Cruz, Nick Nisperos, Robert Arellano, Ronald Llavanes, Noel dela Cruz and Elwin Retanal.

Sri Lanka Inaugural Online Rapid National Chess Championship Cycle 2021 (Open/Women’s)

The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is organizing a comprehensive Online Rapid Chess Championship Cycle for the first time in Sri Lanka which started from 1st week of June 2021. The 7 Novices Division events and 7 Women’s Novices Division event were finished on the 15th of August 2021 successfully.

This event is the selection event for the International Online Rapid Chess Championships this year.  The Event will help all Chess players to stay at home at this difficult time with support to grow their Chess Strength. The event is be held on the Chess.com platform with all the fair play regulations approved by FIDE. The Time Control will be 15 minutes + 10 second increment for each move played.

The Major Division events will be held in 3 Week ends:

28th & 29th August 2021 – Western I (Open),  North Western & Uva with Kegalle (Open), Western II (Women) and Southern (Women)

4th & 5th September 2021 – Western II (Open), Central With Kegalle (Open), Western I (Women) and Northern (Women)

11th & 12th September 2021- Northern (Open), Southern Open Central With Kegalle (Women), and North Western & Uva with Ratnapura (Women)

Players can use only Laptops or Desktop with a webcam to play the games. In all times of play in progress, players should join in the zoom meeting with the screen and task Manager shared with the tournament arbiters. The Technical Regulations will be sent to the registered players individually.

 

All fair play measures are taken during the event and the games after each round will be sent to the Chess.com and FIDE exports for fair play checking. If any player is found guilty in any form of these checks, he/ she will be banned from all types of Chess for 2 years.

MANILA, Philippines—Chester Neil Reyes (Elo 1837) shocked fourth seed IM Denis Lazavik (Elo 2440) of Belarus in 47 moves of a King’s Indian defense to improve his total to 6.5 points out of 7 rounds in the ongoing FIDE Online Rapid World Cup Cadets & Youth online chess championship Open 16 and under virtually held at Tornelo Platform late Thursday.

With the win, Reyes, the pride of Rodriguez, Rizal province remains on top along with FIDE Master Rohith Krishna S (Elo 2304) of India who brought down Ruben Fernandez Lopez (Elo 2213) of Spain in 57 moves of Ruy Lopez Opening.

Iran, India win Asian Juniors and Girls Chess Championships for Players with Disabilities

Armin Rahmat Pour of Iran and R.P. Kanishri of India won the Asian Juniors and Girls Chess Championships for Players with Disabilities, respectively, held 9-11 July on Tornelo. Rahmat Pour, who is deaf, scored 4.5 points in the 5 round Swiss boys division, beating Dhanesh Gobinath of Malaysia, compatriot Mohammad Sadra ShojaeiNejad, E. Gowthaman of India and Pin Xie Loo of Malaysia, then splitting the point with Max Dave Tellor of the Philippines in the last round.

Loo, Abolfazi Kazemiyan Esko of Iran and Sultan Kozhakhmetov of Kazakhstan followed with 4 points each but after tie break the Malaysian got silver while Kazemihyan won the bronze.

 

R.P. Kanishri of India scored 5 points out of 6 games. Kanishri beat compatriot S.G. Dhganusya, Sukanna Marufa Azad of Bangladesh, Dariia Kudainazarova of Kyrgyzstan, and Jasmi Nur Fatihah and Yoshni Ramakrishnan both of Malaysia. Kanishri conceded the point to Lim Yee Jin of Malaysia in the penultimate round. The Girls Division was played as a Round Robin among 7 players.

The top three of each group will be given lessons by FIDE Disabled Commission Chairman GM Luther Thomas of Germany.
