Espana Chess Club Places Second in Colegas de Kike Chess Marathon

MANILA, Philippines— Ted Ian Montoyo of Bacolod City scored 273 points in a 12-hour Chess Marathon organized by endicraft of Colegas de Kike, Madrid, Spain to lead the Espana Chess Club to 2nd place finish. The tournament was held at lichess. com last July 6 to 7, 2021 with a time control of 3 minutes and zero-increment.

Montoyo was supported by top 20 leader boards teammates Nicky Nikoy Olvina, Leo Mirana, Judemund Ramirez, NM Julius Sinangote, Gerald Lumberio, Clement Valledor, Rhenz Rhean Auza, Alex Amatonding, Louise Manuel Macalintal, Ronjay Opilas, Rodelio Lopez, Mark Anthony Carganilla, Joel Obogne, Eric Calacday, Eduardo Campos Jr., Roland Villa, Ramil Talab, Renato Mame, Vincent Brimbuela, and other 98 players who joined ECC-PH-INTL. team.

Ranindu of Sri Lanka to Compete in FIDE World Cup

 

Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage of Ananda College is leaving to Russia today to represent Sri Lanka at the FIDE World Cup 2021. Ranindu adds his name in golden letters in the Sri Lankan Chess history being the first player to participate in the strongest Chess Event in the World.

The FIDE World Cup is the event where the top 208 players in the world participate in the knock out basis in a period of 1 ½ months to find the best in the world. All the top Chess players in the world including the current World Chess Champion Magnus Carlson have confirmed their participation. The event starts with the Opening Ceremony to be held on 11th of July 2021 at Sochi, Russia and the 1st round starts on 12th of July 2021.

According to the new qualification system of FIDE on rating strength, Sri Lanka got the opportunity to enter a player into the World Cup 2021. The Sri Lanka National Selection Committee decided to have a selection trial between the National Chess Champion, Ranindu Dilshan Liyanage and the Sri Lanka Top ranked Harshana Thilakarathne. But, Harshana withdrew due to some health reasons giving the opportunity to Ranindu.

Ranindu won the Sri Lanka National Chess Championship in October 2020 convincingly. Then he came back strongly to win the Sri Lanka Chess Gran Prix 2021

 

4th annual Chooks-to-Go Philippine National Rapid Chess Championships for Boys and Girls

MANILA, Philippines—Woman National Master (WNM) Kaye Lalaine Regidor of Santa Rosa City, Laguna, Woman National Master Jersey Marticio and Woman Candidate Master Alexandra Sydney Paez of Cabuyao City, Laguna lead the early entries in their respective divisions in the 4th annual Chooks-to-Go National Rapid Chess Championships Juniors and Kiddies (Boys and Girls) division slated July 10, 2021, 2pm Manila Time at Tornelo Platform.

The 12 year old Regidor, a Grade 6 student of Rizal Dila Elementary School Santa Rosa City, Laguna is the champion in the Under 12-Girls 2021 Hybrid  National Age Group Chess Championships Grandfinals. She tallied perfect 11 points.


The 14 years old Marticio, on the other hand, an Incoming Grade 9 student of Pulo National High School, Cabuyao City, Laguna won twice 2nd place in the 2021 Hybrid National Youth & School Chess Championships (Under 14 and Under 15 Girls).


The 17 year old Paez, an online Arena International Master, a Grade 12 student of Malayan College of Laguna is fresh from  a runner-up finish in the 2021 Hybrid National Youth & School Chess Championships (Under 18 – Girls) last June 22 to 29, 2021.

The National Chess Federation of the Philippines has conferred the Woman National Master and Woman Candidate Master Title to Regidor, Marticio and Paez respectively.

Other early entries for the kiddies category include Yanie Ayesha Estavillo, Ma. Sophia Achaoso, Jewelle Iris Anacio, Jeanne Marie Arcinue, Faith Argenal, Cecille Bagalanon and Ryien Bahita.

Early junior registrants are Alysah, Mickayla and Rohanisah Buto, Jelaine Adriano, Sofia Angelique Alcala, Chelsie Angeli Amir, Patricia Illeja Bernardo, Reycel Bodoso, Shaira Capinpin and Geraldine Mae Camarines.

“The event is the biggest national online chess event in the country. This is indeed a big help for the promotion of chess. I would like to really thank my good friend, BAVI President Ronald Daniel Mascarinas for annually sponsoring this event” according to Transforming President of the Rotary Club of Nuvali Sam Balboa.

“Exciting times ahead for Philippine chess. The proceeds of this event will go to the charity projects of the Rotary Club of Nuvali,” added online Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez.

The event is organized by the Rotary Club of Nuvali and Philippine Executive Chess Association, backed up by BAVI President Ronald Daniel Mascarinas and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

IM Michael Concio Jr. Wins Lichess Bullet Tournament

MANILA, PHilippines—International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmarinas City, Cavitewon the Marguel Soria Jr. Bullet Online Chess Celebration on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at lichess.org.

Concio beat Ryan Concepcion in the final round to tally 99 points to win the one-day event, using the 1 minute plus 1 second time control format, organized by Bayanihan Chess Club.

Concio, one of the top players of Dasmarinas Chess Academy put up by Cong. Elpidio “Pidi” Barzaga Jr. and national coach FIDE Master Roel Abelgas will also be representing the Philippines in the FIDE World Cup 2021 set from July 10 to August 6, 2021 in Sochi, Russia.

Kevin Arquero of Pasay City came second with 93 points followed by third placer FIDE Master David Elorta of Manila who totes 89 points.

Rounding up the top 10 were 4th: National Master Mark Jay Bacojo of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (75 pts.), 5th:  National Master Elwin Retanal of Cebu (74 pts.), 6th FIDE Master Roel Abelgas of Dasmarinas City,  Cavite (72 pts.),  7th: National Master Merben Roque of Cebu (68 pts.), 8th: Grandmaster Darwin Laylo of Dasmarinas City, Cavite (67 pts.), 9th: Arena Grandmaster Henry Roger Lopez of Panabo City of Davao del Norte(66 pts.) and 10th FIDE Master Sander Severino of Silay City, Negros Occidental (65 pts.).

Auckland Schoolgirls Chess Championships

The annual Auckland Schoolgirls Championships was held last Friday, July 2nd and attracted a record turnout of 230 girls, an increase of more than 40% on the previous year. It has been organised for many years by FM Bob Smith and his wife WFM Vivian Smith.

Asian Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities

The Asian Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities reels off 9th July on Tornelo with 30 players from 9 countries participating in the men’s and women’s divisions.

The Asian Online Chess Championship for Players with Disabilities is an open individual tournament for chess players who belong to any of the three disability categories (visually impaired, hearing impaired and physically disabled).

ACF invites National Federations in Asia to nominate 2 players each for the open section and 2 players each for the women’s section for the Asian Online Championship for Players with Disabilities. Players should be members of their national federation with FIDE ID number.

The event will be played as a Swiss system tournament of five rounds on Tornelo. Time control: 10 minutes plus 5 seconds increment per move starting from move 1 (10’ + 5” incr.). There is no default time. No penalty is imposed on a player if they are late for any of their games; their clock simply keeps running until the flag falls.

The 1st July 2021 FIDE Rapid ratings will be used for pairing purposes. Should a participant have no FIDE Rapid rating, their standard rating will be used and if they have no standard rating, they will be considered as unrated for seeding purposes.

The tournament will take place from 9th or 11th of July. An online Technical Meeting is scheduled 3pm Dubai time on 8th July 2021.

Any request for a special arrangement, in particular a request to have an assistant, shall be communicated to the disabledasia@gmail.com address no later than two (2) days after the registration deadline. The organizers shall attempt to grant the request in good faith. Their decision shall be final and no appeal shall be entertained.

IA Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh is Tournament Director. Chief Arbiter is IA Kausar Bauyrzhan and Appeals Committee Chairman is IA Jamie Kenmure, Chairman of the Asian Chess Federation Commission for Disabled Persons.
