The winners of the team competition are determined by the following criteria in descending order of priority:
– team points;
– the amount of points scored by the team’s players;
– personal meeting of the teams (if there was one);
– the command truncated Buchholz coefficient;
– the Buchholz command coefficient.

Indian children dominated the 7th Western Asia Youth Chess Championship standard event held 7-16 July 2024 in Colombo, Sri Lanka with four gold medals followed by Sri Lanka with three golds and Kazakhstan with two gold medals. The Western Asia Youth Chess Championship was organized by the Chess Federation of Sri lanka under the auspices of FIDE and the Asian Chess Federation supported by the Planning and Development Commission.

Indian youths topped the Western Asia blitz chess championship on Saturday, 13th July 2024 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Vietnam youths topped the Eastern Asia Youth Rapid Chess Championship today 13th July 2024 in Penang, Malaysia, with three gold medals followed by host Malaysia with two golds and one silver and bronze, and Singapore with two golds and two bronze medals. A record 365 players are participating from 16 countries, namely Brunei Darusslam, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malsyaia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam.
The event is being held in 12 categories, under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 for boys and girls. The standard event is scheduled 14-20 July 2024. The tournament is organized by the Malaysian Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE.

FM Akhilbay, Imangali of Kazakhstan leads alone with 5.5 points out of 6 rounds in the boys under-16 followed by compatriot Dumanuly, Sultanbeibarys and Indian Daksh, Goyal with 4.5 points each.

THD Tnisarindu Induwara of Sri Lanka grabbed solo lead in the Under-14 boys with 4.5 points. Compatriot B. Janukshan and CM Sajid Sakline Mostafa of Bangladesh follow close behind with 4 points each.

Quizon held off International Master Michael Concio Jr. of Dasmariñas, Cavite to a draw in the ninth and final round of the tournament held in the celebration of the 76th Ozamiz City Charter Anniversary and feast of Nuestra Sra. dela Concepcion y del Triunfo de Migpangi. The tournament was organized by Asenso Misamis Occidental Federated Chess Association in coordination with the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental.
Quizon, a member of the star-studded Dasmariñas Chess Academy under Mayor Jenny Barzaga and Councillor Kiko Barzaga, had a total of 7.5 points (six wins and three draws). He bagged the PHP100,000 top purse.
“I am happy to have won the 2nd Gov. Henry S. Oaminal Open Chess Tournament. I wish that my luck would remain the same in my next tournament,” said the 19-year-old Quizon, who needs to raise his standard rating 2460 to 2500 to complete his GM title status.
Concio, Grandmaster Darwin Laylo of Dasmariñas, Cavite and International Master Eric Labog Jr. of Solano, Nueva Vizcaya placed second, third and fourth with similar 7.5 points to receive P60,000, P40,000 and P20,000, respectively.
NM Joey Albert Florendo of Zamboanga City and Rodney Opada of Ozamis City scored 7.0 points each while FM David Elorta of Manila, Johnnel Balquin of Cagayan de Oro City, Nazario Ubanan of Cagayan de Oro City, Michel Jackson Ambuang of Dipolog City, FM Roel Abelgas of Dasmariñas, Cavite , Abdelmunim Hassan of Jolo, Sulu, AGM Julius Dan Augustine Ablin of Iligan City, Jeriel Manlimbana of Malaybalay, Bukidnon and Johnny Wellem Carzano of Tangub City have identical 6.5 points.
Meanwhile, Quarl Maverick Vera Cruz of Balingoan, Misamis Oriental and NM Keith Adriane Ilar of El Salvador, Misamis Oriental topped the Elementary and High School division, respectively to take home P60,000 each.
