Arbiters’ Workshop in Arabic Held 23-26 Dec 2023

A FIDE Arbiters Workshop in Arabic was held online 23-26 December 2023 via Zoom under the auspices of the FIDE Arbiters’ Commission.

A total of 31 students participated from 12 countries, namely Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Marocco, Oman, Somalia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Lecturers were Asian Chess Federation Arbiters’ Commission Chairman IA/IO Abdulrahim Mahdi, also counsellor of FIDE Arbiters’ Commission, IA/IO Hassan Khaled of Egypt and IA/IO Shaker Al Afoo of Bahrain.

 

 

 

Quizon of Philippines and Amilal of Mongolia share Eastern Asia Juniors lead

International Master Daniel Quizon of the Philippines and FIDE Master Munkhdalai Amilal of Mongolia stamped their class in the Eastern Asia Juniors and Girls Chess Championship 2023 – Open division at the Sabah Oriental Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia on Tuesday, December 5.

Quizon trounced stablemate FIDE Master Christian Gian Karlo Arca of the Philippines while Amilal turned back International Master Michael Concio Jr. of the Philippines. Quizon and Amilal share the lead at 4.5 points apiece.

National Master Jan Clifford Labog of the Philippines won in contrasting fashion.
Labog bested countryman National Master Ivan Travis Cu of the Philippines to raise his total to 4.0 points and climb to solo third.

In the Girls section, Woman FIDE Master Diajeng Theresa Singgih of Indonesia defeated Woman National Master Ruelle Canino of the Philippines to score 4.5 points and grab solo lead, a half point ahead of Woman Candidate Master Chua Jia-Tien of Malaysia who totes 4.0 points. Chua beat Woman FIDE Master Boldbaatar Altantuya of Mongolia.

MANILA, Philippines – Grandmaster Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr. will try to live up to his reputation as the country’s chess ironman as he spearheads the tough player field in the Kamatyas Invitational GM Tourney 11th edition to be held on December 9 to 17 at the Pande Amerikana, Grandmaster Eugene Torre Museum in General Ordóñez Street, Concepcion Dos, Marikina City.

Also plunging into battle are GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia, GM Tran Tuan Minh of Vietnam,  GM Wei Ming Kevin Goh of Singapore and WIM Miaoyi Lu  of China.

“Ready for the Kamatyas tournament this December 9. I am ready. I am going try to win this competition.” said the 13-time Philippine Open Champion Antonio.

International Master Joel Banawa,  who topped the Isabela Chess Club Inc. 1st FIDE Rated Chess Tournament last January in in Alicia, Isabela, is also one of the players to watch out for along with IM Michael Concio Jr., IM Daniel Quizon, IM Paulo Bersamina and IM Emmanuel Garcia.

The champion in the FIDE Standard tournament jointly organized by International Master Roderick Nava and National Master David Almirol of Kamatyas Chess Club will receive $4,000 while the second placer to fifth placer will have $2,000, $1,000, $800 and $700. Chess Federation of Pakistan president Hanif Qureshi sent the above photo of their team. Qureshi wrote that “Sixteen Pakistani youth are selected through a nationwide trial to ensure merit. This is the first time in history that Pakistani youth started to play in international events. Already this is our 4th international event for youth in a year and half.”

Harshavardhan of India and Sultanbek of Kazakhstan Win Western Asian Juniors and Girls Rapid Chess Championships 2023

IM GB Harshavardhan of India and WIM Zeinep Sultanbek of Kazakhstan won the Western Asia Juniors and Girls Chess Championships 29th November 2023 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Chess Federation is organizing, on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE, the Western Asian Juniors and Girls Standard, Rapid and Blitz championships from 28 November to 6 December 2023 in Colombo. Harshavardhan (above left) scored 5.5 points out of possible 7 games with a better tie break over three other players, namely Halynyazow, Nepali of Turkmenistan, LMST De Silva of Sri Lanka and Mazhkenov Alisher of Kazakhstan. Halynyazow became 2nd while Sri Lanka’s National Chess Champion LMST De Silva became 3rd.
WIM Sultanbek Zainep (above right) also tied with Sri Lanka’s young Oshini Gunawardena (in photo with girls champion) who recently became the World Cadet Champion in under 12 Girls with six points and won the Championship due to the better tie breaker. Oshini had to be satisfied with the 2nd place. WFM Lala Shohradova of Turkmenistan came third with 5.5 points.
The Western Asian Junior Chess Championships 2023 is organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE from 28th November to 6th December 2023 at the Auditorium of the Board of Investment, Sri Lanka which is at the famous World Trade Center in the heart of Colombo.
Seven countries are participating in the event, namely Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives and Turkmenistan with host Sri Lanka. A total of 80 players, 40 in Boys and 40 in Girls participated at the Rapid Chess Championships 2023.

Lists of Players Registered in Asian Youth Chess Championship

A record 620 plus players shall see action in the Asian Youth Chess Championships scheduled 12-22 December 2023 at the Al Ain Convention Center in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. With accompanying parents, the number shall exceed a thousand participants.

Federations are invited to check the list of their players and age category in chess-results.com and inform the Organizing Committee of corrections, if any.

Philippines, Kazakhstan and Malaysia top Asian Disabled Championships

The Asian Disabled Championships for Men, Women, Juniors and Girls were held 8-9 December 2023 on Tornelo, supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission. Fifty players, 20 men, 18 Juniors, six women and six girls participated from nine countries, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, Iran, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam.

Darry Bernardo of the Philippines won the Men’s prevailing by tie break in an all-Filipino tie for first.

Among the women, WCM Deniza Kurmanalina of Kazakhstan topped the RR.

Among the Juniors Loo Pin Xie of Malaysia finished alone with 4.5 points out of 5 rounds for first place.

Among the girls Tomiris Kurmanalina of kazakhstan finished alone with 4.5 points

Kamatyas Invitational GM Tournament Slated 9-17 December 2023 in Philippines

The Kamatyas Invitational GM Tournament 2023 is scheduled to be held on December 9-17, 2023 at the Pande Amerikana, Concepcion Dos, Marikina, Metgro Manila, Philippines beside GM Torre Chess Museum.

International Masters Daniel Quizon and Michael Concio Jr. are the local GM title aspirants taking part in this FIDE weeklong standard tournament hosted by IM Roderick Nava and NM David Almirol Jr. of Kamatyas Chess Club in close cooperation with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines.
Concio clinched his first of three GM norms plus an outright IM title after winning the Eastern Asia Juniors Chess Championships held at the Lima Hotel in Tanauan, Batangas in 2019.
