The City of Tagaytay under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and International Chess Federation and in cooperation with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee, has the honor to invite all National Chess Federations in Asia to participate in the 2023 Asian Seniors Chess Championships for over-50 and over-65 years old (and best women), from 14-22 October 2023 at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City, Philippines.

India, Uzbekistan, Mongolia Top Asian Schools Chess Championship

India, Uzbekistan and Mongolia topped the medal tally in the 17th Asian Schools Chess Championship held 13-21 July 2023 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The event was supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission.

A total of 324 participants from 17 countries took part at the Championship in the categories under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17, open and girls.
The prize winners were awarded with trophies, medals and certificates according to the regulations during the Closing Ceremony.
President of Uzbekistan Chess Federation Mr. Alisher Sadullaev and First Vice President Mr. Husan Turdialiev were both present at the awarding, together with the honorable guest Mr. Sami Khader, Mr. Berik Balgabaev and Mr. Rajai Alsusi.

Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, India Top Western Asia Youth in Kyrgyzstan

The Western Asia Youth Chess Championship was held from 30th June to 10th July. It was organized by the Kyrgyz Chess Union for the first time in its chess history of Kyrgyzstan and under the auspices of FIDE and the Asian Chess Federation. The event was supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission.

The championship gathered more than 280 participants from 10 countries: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, India, Sri-Lanka, Oman, Bangladesh and players under FIDE flag.

Organizers used Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in chess for the first time in chess history. It was provided by partner of the Kyrgyz Chess Union – idChess. It was used for the categories under 6 and under 8.

Each participant received souvenir gifts from organizers and certificates from Abchess online platform and certificates from idChess. During the rest day, participants got an opportunity to see the national museum Rukh Ordo.

Moreover, organizers provided team medals based on the individual results.

The championship was supported by general sponsor M Bulak, Asian Chess Federation, Public Fund Apake, Administration of president of Kyrgyz Republic, Abchess, Lichess, Idchess, Shoro and Elnuru.

Closing Ceremony of Rohingya School Teachers Chess Training


The closing ceremony of the Rohingya School Teachers Chess Training was held 25th July in hybrid style at Refugee and Repatriation Camp-5, Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh with participation by Zoom of FIDE and Asian Chess Federation officials.

The social project was organized by the Bangladesh Chess Federation with the cooperation of the South Asian Chess Council, Office of Refugees and Repatriation Commissioner’s (RRRC), UNICEF and Jagoani Chakra Foundation.

Asian Chess Federation General Secretary Hisham Al Tahir and FIDE Executive Director GM Victor Vologan, Casto Abundo Casto, Special Adviser of FIDE President and Executive Director of Asian Chess Federation, Mr. Berik Balgabaev, Advisor of the FIDE President were present as special guests on Zoom.

Mr. Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, President FIDE Zone-3.2 & General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation presided over the ceremony. Md. Ahosan Habib, Senior Assistant Secretary, attached to Refugees Relief & Repatriation Commissioner‘s Office (RRRC) of Camp In Charge of Camp-5 was present as special guest.

International Chess Arbiter Md. Haroon Or Rashid, & Md. Abul Kashem Mozumder Project Focal of Jagorni Chakra Foundation spoke on the occasion.

A total of 30 school teacher’s from 30 Rohingya school camps participated in this training programme. FIDE Trainer GM Enamul Hossain Razib, International Chess Arbiter Md. Haroon Or Rashid and FIDE Instructor Showkat Hossain Pollab gave training on different subjects of how to teach children and school students. At the end of the training. The main objective of organising this training program was to teach the game of chess to the students studying in Rohingya camp schools.

A total of 300 chess boards and pieces were distributed to 30 schools with each school receiving ten sets of chessboards with pieces and copies of chess books on  how to learn chess including its rules.

Chess for Refugees Project: Rohingya School Teachers Chess Training

A Rohingya School Teachers Chess Training under the financial support of FIDE and Asian Chess Federation was organised by the  Bangladesh Chess Federation last weekend at the Refugee and Repatriation Camp-5, Ukhiya in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh.

The Chess for Refugees social project was held with the cooperation of the South Asian Chess Council, Office of Refugees and Repatriation Commissioner’s (RRRC), UNICEF and Jagoani Chakra Foundation

The main objective of organising this training program was to teach the game of chess to the students studying in Rohingya camp schools. Md. Ahsan Habib, Senior Assistant Secretary, attached to Refugees Relief & Repatriation Commissioner ‘s Office (RRRC) of Camp In Charge of Camp-5 inaugurated the three-day training program as the chief guest at CiC conference room, Camp-5.

National Chess Champion of Bangladesh, FIDE Trainer and Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib, International Chess Arbiter Md. Haroon Or Rashid, Md. Tanvir Rahman Bhuiyan, UNICEF Education Officer, Md. Abul Kashem Mozumder Project Focal of Jagorni Chakra Foundation Mehedi Kaiser, and Program Coordinator of Johns Hopkins Center Communication program spoke on the occasion.

UNICEF’s Communication Officers Alam Farvis and Md Pavlo and UNICEF’s Special Visitor Chris Henderson from Teachers College Cilumba University of New Zealand were present at the time. A total of 30 school teachers from different Rohingya school camps participated in this training program.

FIDE Trainer GM Enamul Hossain Razib, International Chess Arbiter Md. Haroon Or Rashid and FIDE Instructor Showkat Hossain Pollab gave training on different subjects of how to learn chess. Rohingya school teachers participated in this event with great interest.

Books on chess and laws of chess were given to participating school teachers. Organizers hope that students studying in Rohingya schools will learn chess with great interest and will enjoy playing chess. At the same time, by practicing chess, they will be more focused on learning the game. At the end of the training, each of the 30 schools will be provided with ten sets of chessboards with pieces.

FIDE International Organizers Seminar Held in Arabic

FIDE IO Online Seminar was held from 17th to 21st July 2023 via Zoom.
It was organized by the Asian Chess Federation Academy under the auspices of FIDE Events Commission and supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission.

The opening session was attended by Hisham Al-Taher, General Secretary of the Asian Chess Federation, Ozgur Solakoglu, Honorary Chairman of the FIDE Events Commission, Casto Abundo, ACF Executive Director, and Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh, Secretary of ACF Arbiters Commission.

At the opening ceremony of the Seminar, the ACF General Secretary Hisham Al Taher welcomed the participants to the Seminar and urged them to make full use of the information that the lecturer will provide. He wished everyone good luck.

Ozgur Solakoglu, Honorary Chairman of the FIDE Events Commission, delivered the speech on behalf of FIDE and Events Commission who praised the efforts of the Academy of the Asian Chess Federation and Asian lecturers in organizing courses to prepare, qualify and develop technical cadres in the Asian member countries and all Arabic speaking countries.

The Lecturer of the Seminar was the FIDE Lecturer IO/IA Mahdi Abdulrahim (UAE) FIDE Chairman of the ACF Arbiters Commission. The seminar was moderated by Hisham Al Taher, Secretary General of the Asian Chess Federation.

The Language of the Seminar was in Arabic.

Daily lectures were from 18.00-22.00 Dubai Time (+4 GMT). 21st July 2023 was the seminar examination test (3 Hours)

Twenty-One (21) participants registered from Nine (9) federations, namely, ALG, KUW, JOR, KSA, EGY, LBA, PLE, SYR, and UAE. Seventeen (17) of them passed the examination test which was held after the end of the lectures.

The Seminar will give FIDE IO norm, Seminar Certificate according to the Regulations for the FIDE Events Commission after the approval of the next FIDE Council meeting.

International Chess Day 2023 

 

Dear national federations,

On July 20th, we will celebrate International Chess Day. It also marks FIDE’s 99th anniversary.

This is a day to celebrate chess. For International Chess Day 2023 we want to reinforce the tradition started in previous years: we ask members of chess community to teach someone how to play chess. The more, the merrier! Be it your neighbour, niece, a colleague or grandfather, let’s make the chess family grow.

 

Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Postponed to 2024

Olympic Council of Asia announced that the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Thailand in November 2023 have been postponed to February-March 2024.
Originally set for November 17-26, 2023, the new dates for AIMAG 6 are February 24 to March 6 2024.

135th Internet Based FIDE Arbiters’ Seminar 22-26th June 2023 in Arabic


A FIDE Arbiters Seminar in Arabic was organized by the Asian Chess Federation, and under the auspices of FIDE Arbiters Commission 22-26 June 2023 via Zoom. the event was supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission.

The Lecturer was IA/IO Mahdi Abdulrahim (UAE) FIDE Lecturer, Councilor of FIDE AC, Chairman of ACF AC. The Technical was KK Chen, the Organizer Hisham Al Taher (ACF General secretary), the observer was IA/IO Casto Abundo (ACF Executive
Director).

The Language of the Seminar was Arabic. Daily lectures from 18.00 to 22.30 Dubai Time (+4 GMT). total of (22 hours), 30 th June 2023 was the examination test online (4 hours). Twenty (22) participants were registered from ten (10) deferent federations, nine (9) of them were female. The participants were from ALG, EGY, UAE, BRN, TUN, MAR, YEM, KSA,
SYR, and LBA. Twenty-One (21) of them attended the exam.
