Philippines’ GM elect Daniel Quizon joining Asian Juniors Rapid Chess Championship

The Philippines’ newest Grandmaster elect, Daniel Quizon, will participate in the Asian Juniors Rapid Chess Championship tomorrow 12 October 2024 at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City, Philippines.

Filipino Daniel Maravilla Quizon tied for first to sixth place in the Abu Dhabi Masters, one of the strongest tournaments of the year. He ended up in 6th place after the tie breaks. The Dasmariñas athlete finished with seven wins and two losses after nine rounds in one of the toughest tournaments Quizon joined.
Quizon was in for a strong finish in the Abu Dhabi Masters along with five Grandmasters. namely eventual champion GM Yakubboev Nodirbek of Uzbekistan, 2nd place GM David Paravyan of Russia, 3rd place GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov of Uzbekistan, 4th place GM Leon Luke Mendonca of India and 5th place GM M. Amin Tabatabaei of Iran.

Quizon achieved the required minimum rating at the Budapest Olympiad last month in Hungary.
