
Recarte Tiauson of Barangay Mabca Municipality of Sagñay, Camarines Sur won the 5th Mayor Fermin Mabulo Open Invitational Chess Tournament held June 8 to 9, 2024 in San Fernando, Camarines Sur, Philippines.
The 36-year-old Tiauson bagged the top spot after registering the highest output of 6.5 points.
He had previously won the Jesse Robredo Memorial Chess Tournament III and the 2nd Greyhound Open Chess Tournament for a cause, both held in Naga City, Philippines.
Tiauson, playing under the guidance of Mayor John Vincent B. Fuentebella, received the top purse of P10,000 for his efforts.
Leo Mirana of Goa and National Master Carlo Lorena of Daraga occupied the second to third spots with 6.0 points each.
Romy Jun Malate of Naga, Patrick Ismael Credo of Sipocot and National Master Glennen Artuz of Naga wound up fourth, fifth and sixth with identical 5.5 points.
It shall be recalled that Tiauson finished third in the 8th HDBank Cup International Open Chess Tournament Challenger category title at the Army Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2018.-Marlon Bernardino-
