Shukhman Pulls Away in Asian Girls, Concio Closes in on Grebnev in Asian Juniors

WIM Anna Shukhman of Russia (above left), playing under the FIDE flag, crushed the Petroff Defense of erstwhile co-leader Halder Sneha of India (right) in 60 moves to pull away alone with a perfect 4-point slate after as many rounds of the Asian Girls Chess Championship at the Knights Templar Hotel in Tagaytay City, Philippines.

Sneha follows in second slot with 3 points together with three others, namely compatriots WIM G. Tejaswini and Dhanashree Khairmode, and Ainul Mardhiah Mohd Afif of Malaysia

In the boys’ division, top seed GM Aleksey Grebnev of Russia, playing under the FIDE flag, used the Giuoco Piano game to beat erstwhile co-leader Krishna Rohith of India in 57 moves to maintain solo lead with 4 points from as many rounds.

IM Michael Concio of the Philippines (above left) essayed the King’s Indian Attack to beat compatriot FM Christian Gian Karlo Arca (right) who sacrificed a Knight on the 21st move but the attack fizzled out and Arca resigned on the 39th move.

Concio is alone in second slot with 3.5 points and sets up the showdown with Grebnev in the 5th round at 9am tomorrow.
