The World Schools Chess Championship was held 14-22 April 2023 in Rhodes, Greece. In the under-9 category, 61 players from 24 countries competed. There were 530 participants from 53 countries with over 1500 visitors in total.
Thehas Rithmitha Kiringoda, seeded 21st, won alone with 7.5 points out of 9 rounds. Thehas lost only one game in the 8th round. Four players tied for the first runner-up position. Aisultan Bissaliyev and Alimzhan Zhauynbay, both of Kazakhstan, managed to win the first and second runners-up positions respectively.
