
Team BNU Russian Comrade won the Senator Manny Pacquiao chess team tournament held August 11, 2024 at Robinsons Balibago in Angeles City, Pampanga, Philippines. Anatoly Pascua and Vladimir Lait anchored the BNU Russian Comrade’s campaign in the last round by beating Alfredo Balquin Jr., and John Mauricc Delos Santos, on board 2 and board 3, respectively. Jerry Areque defeated Sheider Nebato on board 1 to prevent a possible shut out of the Ratsadahan chess team.
BNU Russian Comrade finished with six wins and a draw for a total output of 16 points to rule the 54-team meet. Teams had 2000 average rating in the Trio tournament organized by Mr. John Salcedo and assisted by National Arbiter Edward Serrano and National Arbiter Alfred Miranda.

With the feat, the BNU Russian Comrade chess team received P40,000 and a trophy for their efforts.
BNU Russian Comrade chess team defeated Medina, 3-0, in the first round, Black Tiger, 2-1, in the second round, Jama Apparels aka Chess Team, 3-0, in the third round, Red Horse, 2.5-0.5, in the fifth round, Ratsadahan Uno, 2-1, in the sixth round before beating Ratsadahan chess team, 2-1, in the seventh round. They drew with BNU UP, 1.5-1.5, in the fourth round.
Tira-Tira Sampaloc B chess team led by Kelly Rancalp, Vladimir Gonzales and RJ Domingo wound up second with a total of 15.5 points to bring home the runner-up prize of P25,000 and a trophy.
The Ratsadahan Uno chess team headed by NM Bob Jones Liwagon, Rommel Llavanes and Paul Sanchez with a similar 15.5 points could only muster a third place finish to earn P15,000 and a trophy.
Rounding up the top ten are Cagayan North Team (fourth) Ratsadahan (fifth), Tira-Tira Sampaloc A (sixth), BNU Team BNM (seventh), Black Tiger (eight), TEAM ATBS (ninth) and M2 Constructura Yabut Construction (tenth).
Meanwhile, Pat Ferdolf Macabulos (6.5 pts.) won the Senator Manny Pacquiao Individual Youth division followed by second Mark Noah Ventayen (6 pts.) and third Soffia Joy Mamangun (6 pts.).-Marlon Bernardino-
