Vietnam youths topped the Eastern Asia Youth Rapid Chess Championship today 13th July 2024 in Penang, Malaysia, with three gold medals followed by host Malaysia with two golds and one silver and bronze, and Singapore with two golds and two bronze medals. A record 365 players are participating from 16 countries, namely Brunei Darusslam, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Malsyaia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam.
The event is being held in 12 categories, under 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 for boys and girls. The standard event is scheduled 14-20 July 2024. The tournament is organized by the Malaysian Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE.
