
WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin of Bangladesh Ansar became champion and WFM Noshin Anjum became runner-up in the Begum Laila Alam 12th FIDE Rating Women’s Chess Tournament, under the financial patronage of veteran chess player Begum Laila Alam and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation. WIM Sharmin Sultana Shirin and WFM Noshin Anjum both earned 5½ points each after 7th or last round games. In tie-breaking system WIM Shirin clinched the title and WFM Noshin (photo above) became runner-up.

WIM Rani Hamid of Bangladesh Ansar, photo above, became 3rd with 5½ points. Five players earned 5 points each. In tie-breaking system among them Nusrat Jahan Alo of Bangladesh Police became 4th, Wadifa Ahmed of Bangladesh Navy became 5th, WFM Zakia Sultana of Agrani Bank Daba Dal became 6th, Israt Jahan Alo of Bangladesh Police became 7th and Neelava Choudhury of Rupali Bank Krira Parisad. WFM Nazrana Khan Eva of Bangladesh Police became 9th and Warsia Khusbu of Basir Memorial Chess Club became 10th with 4½ points each. Best Under-10 prize goes to Arisha Hossain Tuba with 4 points, Warsia Haider Sarah got best unrated prize with 4 points and Poly Khatun got over 10 to Under-14 prize with 3 points. 7th or last round games were held today (Wednesday).

Begum Laila Alam was present as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners. Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation and President of World Chess Federation Zone-3.2, International Women’s Master Rani Hamid, Executive Members of Bangladesh Chess Federation International Organisers Mahmuda Hoque Chowdhury Moly, Wazir Alam and Waki Alam spoke on the occasion. A total of 48 players participated in the 7 round Swiss-League competition. The winners were awarded cash prizes of eighty thousand Taka, trophies, medals and certificates.
