Bangladesh Wins Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship

Bangladesh has achieved the honor of becoming the undefeated champion in the six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022 sponsored by Saif Powertech Limited 13-20 October 2022 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The tournament was organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Russell Day,

Sri Lanka are runners-up with 3 match points and 5 game points.

Nepal are third with 1 game point without getting any match points. Pakistan finished fourth, Maldives fifth and Bhutan sixth in the six-nation event.

Bangladesh team was composed of GM Enamul Hossain Razib, GM Ziaur Rahman, GM Niaz Murshed, International Master Mohammad Fahad Rahman and IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin. FIDE Instructor Masudur Rahman Mallick served as the captain of the Bangladesh team.

Representing the runner-up Sri Lankan team were Senevirathane  S D B K, IMaster De Silva L M S T, FM Liyanane Ranindu Dilshan, Kaluarachchi Achinthya Shamen and Tennakooe Lisara Samadith and team captain is: W M Kanishka Welipitiya.

Representing the Nepal team were: FM Rajbhandari Rijendra, FM Bilam Lal Shrestha (Captani) , Singhesor Das, Rajendra Bajracharya and Shrestha Rajendra Prasad.

Prize distribution was held 20th October at Hotel 71’s Banquet Hall. President of Bangladesh Chess Federation and South Asian Chess Council Dr. Benazir Ahmed, BPM (Bar) was present as Chief Guest and distributed the prizes among the winners.

Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Mejbah Uddin was present as a special guest.

Vice President of Bangladesh Chess Federation K M Shahidulla presided over the ceremony.

Syed Shahab Uddin Shamim, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation and President FIDE Zone 3.2 gave a welcome speech.

Mohammad Hanif Qureshi, President of Pakistan Chess Federation, Wnagchuk Ugyen Wangchuk, General Secretary of Bangladesh Chess Federation, Bangladesh Chess Federation Joint Secretary Mr. Masudur Rahman Mallick, Chief Arbiter IA Md Haroon Or Rashid, Executive Member Moniruzzaman Palash, Executive Member Mr. Zakir Ahmed and Executive Member Mr. Sajal Mahmud were also present in the ceremony.

A total of 10,000 (ten thousand) US dollars was awarded in the competition. Champion team Bangladesh won 4,000 (four thousand) US dollars, runner’s up team Sri Lanka 3,000 (three thousand) US dollars, third place Nepal 2,000 (two thousand) US dollars, fourth place Pakistan 1,000 (one thousand) US dollars prize is awarded.

Earlier Honorable Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Mejbah Uddin inaugurated the event on 13th October and was present as a chief guest.

Vietnam, India, Iran Top 3 in Asian Youth Standard Chess Championship

Vietnam won five gold medals followed by India with 3 golds and Iran with 1 each of gold and silver, to top the Asian Youth Chess Championship in standard time control 15th-20th October 2022 in Bali, Indonesia. Close to 500 children competed in the 9-round Swiss tournament organized by the Indonesian Chess Federation (PERCASI) on behalf of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. Visit chess-results.com.

 

Pragg and Munguntuul Top Seeds in Asian Continental Open and Women’s in Delhi

Ninety six players from 15 countries are competing in the Asian Continental Chess Championship while 53 women from 11 countries are in the women’s division, both scheduled 25 October to 4 November in New Delhi, India. The premier Asian championship is organized by the All India Chess Federation under the auspices of FIDE and the Asian Chess Federation.

Top seed in the Open is GM Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa (born 10 August 2005). “Pragg” earned the international master title at the age of 10, the youngest at the time to do so, and the grandmaster title at age 12, the second-youngest at the time to do so. On 22 February 2022, at the age of 16, he became the youngest player till then to defeat current world champion Magnus Carlsen, when he beat Carlsen in a rapid game at the Airthings Masters Rapid Chess Tournament.

Top seed in the Women’s division is IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul, a Mongolian international master and the top-ranked woman in her country. She won the 2010 Women’s World University Chess Championship and took silver next year at the 2011 Summer Universiade event. Munguntuul has represented her home country in several team events.

Bangladesh Leads Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022

Bangladesh is in solo lead at the points table with maximum 8 points after the end of the 4th round games of the six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022, sponsored by Saif Powertech Limited. The tournament is held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Russell Day.

Sri Lanka is in 2nd position with 6 points. Nepal & Pakistan are jointly in 3rd position with 4 points each. The 4th round matches were held 16th October at the Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room.

In the 4th round, Bangladesh defeated Maldives by 4-0 game points. On behalf of Bangladesh, GM Ziaur Rahman, GM Niaz Murshed, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman & IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin won against FM Mohammad Shuaau, CM Mohammed Hassan, and Ahmed Aman Ibrahim and Abdullah Mufeedh of Maldives respectively.

Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 3½-½ game points. IM L M S T De Silva, FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan and Kaluarachchi Achinthya Shamen of Sri Lanka won against FM Rajbhandari Rajendra, FM Bilam Lal Shrestha and Shrestha Rajendra Prasad of Nepal respectively. Singhesor Das of Nepal drew with Tennakoon Lisara Samadhit of Sri Lanka.

Pakistan beat Bhutan by 4-0 game points. FIDE Masters Amer Karim, Junaid Sohail, FM Muhammad Waqar and Khalil-Ur-Rahman of Pakistan won against Karma Sonam, Rai Binod, Sonam Choen and Sangay Nidup of Bhutan respectively.

5th round games will start on 17th October from 3-00 PM at the same venue. The 5th round matches are: Sri Lanka Vs. Pakistan, Bangladesh Vs. Nepal and Bhutan Vs. Maldives.

Anas, Sali Win 2022 PHI National Executive Chess Championship -South Luzon leg

Bong Anas of Iloilo City and National Master Zulfikar Sali of Zamboanga City defeated their last round assignments to share the top honors at the conclusion of the 2022 National Executive Chess Championship -South Luzon leg, Sunday at the Vista Mall, Tagaytay-Sta. Rosa Road, Brgy. Don Jose in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

Anas, a Senior Assistant Manager-Internal Audit Center at Philippine Business Bank toppled Freddie Talaboc while Sali, a Senior Emergency Nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC, Canada and Proprietor & CEO of Sahaya Dermatology Clinic trounced Jefferson Pascua.

With the win, Anas and Sali, both finished 5.0 points apiece in six outings in this 1 day event backed up by Vista Mall – Sta Rosa , Rotary Club of Nuvali, City of Sta. Rosa, Chooks-to-Go, Macolor Semicon Tooling and Fabrication, organized by Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA president Dr. Fred Paez.

Arjoe Loanzon of Cavite City, a Licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer subdued Lloyd Lanciola to finish solo third with 4.5 points.

Rounding up the top nine (9) with 4.0 points each are Engr. Lloyd Lanciola (fourth), Freddie Talaboc (fifth), Engr. Bren Sasot (sixth), Engr. Florel Cruz (seventh), Engr. Arvin Betonio (eight) and NM Engr. Pascua (ninth).
NM Engr. Robert Arellano came tenth place with 3.5 points.

Adjudged category winners were Engr. Cruz (Top Senior), Engr. Sasot (Top Unrated), Engr. Betonio (Top 1800) NM Engr Pascua (Top 1900) and ACM Michella Concio (Top Lady).

Kartavya Anadkat of Gujarat Wins 7th N L Pandiyar Memorial 2022

The 7th edition of N L Pandiyar Memorial FIDE Rating Chess Tournament was held from 8th to 12th October 2022 at Orbit Resort, Udaipur Rajasthan. The event was organized by Chess In Lakecity, Udaipur. The tournament attracted a total 405 players which includes 317 international FIDE rated players. Among the participants were 3 FM, 1 WFM and 1 WCM from 21 states.

The tournament was inaugurated at the hands of. Shri. Vijay Godha, BJP, Other dignitaries present were; Shri. Rajeev Bharadwaj, President, Chess in Lakecity, Shri. Rajendra Teli, Vice president, RCA,  Shri. Vikas Sahu, Secretary Chess In lakecity and IA Swapnil Bansod, Chief Arbiter. The inaugural function was held at 9.30 A.M. and was followed by a technical meeting and first round at 10:00 AM. The necessary technical matters were decided in the meeting and also the appeal committee was formed in the same meeting.

After 5 tough days of 7th N L Pandiyar tournament 2022, which concluded at Orbit Resort, emergence of some new talents. Lower rated players showed their skills and upset the higher rated.

FM Akash Thakur of RLYS the top seed of the tournament, was surprised by Maharashtra’s Kiran Panditrao  during round 5 in an Italian game. At the end of 6th round Kartavya Anadkar and FM Jeet Jain were leading the event with perfect score. At round 7 Kartavya beat Jeet to take the solo lead. He was followed by FM Saurabh Kherdekar of Rlys, Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy UP and Sahil Bheron of HAR with 6.5 pts.

During the 8th round Kartavya was paired against Ajay Santhosh and FM Saurabh was paired against Sahil. All 4 players settled for draws and split the points. Kartavya was still leading the event with 7.5 points, a half point lead over his nearest rivels.

The last round game was also a draw for him against FM Saurabh Kherdekar of Rlys while on 2nd board Sahil Bheron and Ajay Santhosh split the point. Bishal Basak of WB beat Ashpreet Singh and Sham R of TN beat FM Akash Thakur to tie for 2nd Place. Kartavya Anadkar won the event with 8 points, 6 wins and 2 draws. FM Saurabh Kherdekar, Bishal Basak, Kishor Kumar Jaganathan, runnerup at recently concluded Bikaner below 2000, Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy, Sahil Bheron, and Sham R stood 2nd to 7th respectively.  Kartavya bagged the cash prize of Rs. 1,11,000/- and a glittering trophy.

The prizes were distributed at the hand of Smt. Preeti Singh Shakhtawat MLA. The other dignitaries present were Shri. Hardeep Bakshi, Director Sidling public School, Shri. Sanjeev Bharadwaj, secretary, Bharat vikas parishad, Shri. Tushar Mehta, Shri. Rajeev Bharadwaj, President Chess In Lakecity, Shri. Rajendra Teli, Vice president Rajasthan Chess Association & tournament director and IA Swapnil Bansod, Chief Arbiter. The tournament, organized by Chess in Lakecity on behalf of Rajasthan Chess Association and All India Chess Federation, concluded smoothly.
