Bangladesh Leads Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022

Bangladesh is in solo lead at the points table with maximum 8 points after the end of the 4th round games of the six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022, sponsored by Saif Powertech Limited. The tournament is held on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Russell Day.

Sri Lanka is in 2nd position with 6 points. Nepal & Pakistan are jointly in 3rd position with 4 points each. The 4th round matches were held 16th October at the Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room.

In the 4th round, Bangladesh defeated Maldives by 4-0 game points. On behalf of Bangladesh, GM Ziaur Rahman, GM Niaz Murshed, IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman & IM Mohammad Minhaz Uddin won against FM Mohammad Shuaau, CM Mohammed Hassan, and Ahmed Aman Ibrahim and Abdullah Mufeedh of Maldives respectively.

Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 3½-½ game points. IM L M S T De Silva, FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan and Kaluarachchi Achinthya Shamen of Sri Lanka won against FM Rajbhandari Rajendra, FM Bilam Lal Shrestha and Shrestha Rajendra Prasad of Nepal respectively. Singhesor Das of Nepal drew with Tennakoon Lisara Samadhit of Sri Lanka.

Pakistan beat Bhutan by 4-0 game points. FIDE Masters Amer Karim, Junaid Sohail, FM Muhammad Waqar and Khalil-Ur-Rahman of Pakistan won against Karma Sonam, Rai Binod, Sonam Choen and Sangay Nidup of Bhutan respectively.

5th round games will start on 17th October from 3-00 PM at the same venue. The 5th round matches are: Sri Lanka Vs. Pakistan, Bangladesh Vs. Nepal and Bhutan Vs. Maldives.

Anas, Sali Win 2022 PHI National Executive Chess Championship -South Luzon leg

Bong Anas of Iloilo City and National Master Zulfikar Sali of Zamboanga City defeated their last round assignments to share the top honors at the conclusion of the 2022 National Executive Chess Championship -South Luzon leg, Sunday at the Vista Mall, Tagaytay-Sta. Rosa Road, Brgy. Don Jose in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna.

Anas, a Senior Assistant Manager-Internal Audit Center at Philippine Business Bank toppled Freddie Talaboc while Sali, a Senior Emergency Nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria BC, Canada and Proprietor & CEO of Sahaya Dermatology Clinic trounced Jefferson Pascua.

With the win, Anas and Sali, both finished 5.0 points apiece in six outings in this 1 day event backed up by Vista Mall – Sta Rosa , Rotary Club of Nuvali, City of Sta. Rosa, Chooks-to-Go, Macolor Semicon Tooling and Fabrication, organized by Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA president Dr. Fred Paez.

Arjoe Loanzon of Cavite City, a Licensed Electronics and Communications Engineer subdued Lloyd Lanciola to finish solo third with 4.5 points.

Rounding up the top nine (9) with 4.0 points each are Engr. Lloyd Lanciola (fourth), Freddie Talaboc (fifth), Engr. Bren Sasot (sixth), Engr. Florel Cruz (seventh), Engr. Arvin Betonio (eight) and NM Engr. Pascua (ninth).
NM Engr. Robert Arellano came tenth place with 3.5 points.

Adjudged category winners were Engr. Cruz (Top Senior), Engr. Sasot (Top Unrated), Engr. Betonio (Top 1800) NM Engr Pascua (Top 1900) and ACM Michella Concio (Top Lady).

Kartavya Anadkat of Gujarat Wins 7th N L Pandiyar Memorial 2022

The 7th edition of N L Pandiyar Memorial FIDE Rating Chess Tournament was held from 8th to 12th October 2022 at Orbit Resort, Udaipur Rajasthan. The event was organized by Chess In Lakecity, Udaipur. The tournament attracted a total 405 players which includes 317 international FIDE rated players. Among the participants were 3 FM, 1 WFM and 1 WCM from 21 states.

The tournament was inaugurated at the hands of. Shri. Vijay Godha, BJP, Other dignitaries present were; Shri. Rajeev Bharadwaj, President, Chess in Lakecity, Shri. Rajendra Teli, Vice president, RCA,  Shri. Vikas Sahu, Secretary Chess In lakecity and IA Swapnil Bansod, Chief Arbiter. The inaugural function was held at 9.30 A.M. and was followed by a technical meeting and first round at 10:00 AM. The necessary technical matters were decided in the meeting and also the appeal committee was formed in the same meeting.

After 5 tough days of 7th N L Pandiyar tournament 2022, which concluded at Orbit Resort, emergence of some new talents. Lower rated players showed their skills and upset the higher rated.

FM Akash Thakur of RLYS the top seed of the tournament, was surprised by Maharashtra’s Kiran Panditrao  during round 5 in an Italian game. At the end of 6th round Kartavya Anadkar and FM Jeet Jain were leading the event with perfect score. At round 7 Kartavya beat Jeet to take the solo lead. He was followed by FM Saurabh Kherdekar of Rlys, Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy UP and Sahil Bheron of HAR with 6.5 pts.

During the 8th round Kartavya was paired against Ajay Santhosh and FM Saurabh was paired against Sahil. All 4 players settled for draws and split the points. Kartavya was still leading the event with 7.5 points, a half point lead over his nearest rivels.

The last round game was also a draw for him against FM Saurabh Kherdekar of Rlys while on 2nd board Sahil Bheron and Ajay Santhosh split the point. Bishal Basak of WB beat Ashpreet Singh and Sham R of TN beat FM Akash Thakur to tie for 2nd Place. Kartavya Anadkar won the event with 8 points, 6 wins and 2 draws. FM Saurabh Kherdekar, Bishal Basak, Kishor Kumar Jaganathan, runnerup at recently concluded Bikaner below 2000, Ajay Santhosh Parvathareddy, Sahil Bheron, and Sham R stood 2nd to 7th respectively.  Kartavya bagged the cash prize of Rs. 1,11,000/- and a glittering trophy.

The prizes were distributed at the hand of Smt. Preeti Singh Shakhtawat MLA. The other dignitaries present were Shri. Hardeep Bakshi, Director Sidling public School, Shri. Sanjeev Bharadwaj, secretary, Bharat vikas parishad, Shri. Tushar Mehta, Shri. Rajeev Bharadwaj, President Chess In Lakecity, Shri. Rajendra Teli, Vice president Rajasthan Chess Association & tournament director and IA Swapnil Bansod, Chief Arbiter. The tournament, organized by Chess in Lakecity on behalf of Rajasthan Chess Association and All India Chess Federation, concluded smoothly.

Chief Arbiter IA Swapnil Bansod headed the team of Arbiters consisting of IA Deepak Chavan, Dy. Chief Arbiter, IA Sunil Soni, Dy. Asian Seniors Chess Championship Started in Auckland, New Zealand

The Asian Seniors Chess Championship has started at the Auckland Rose Park Hotel in Auckland, New Zealand with 27 players from five countries in the 50+ age group and 18 players from five countries in the 65+ age group. Visit Vega for 50+ group and Vega for 65+ group.

The tournament is organized by the New Zealand Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. See announcement in asianchess.com.

FIDE Trainers Seminar for the Indian Subcontinent 28-30 October 2022

A FIDE Trainers Online Seminar is scheduled 28-30 October 2022 organized by the Asian Chess Federation in association with the Asia Chess Academy under the supervision of the International Chess Federation’s Trainers Commission. The Seminar is for the Indian subcontinent (India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Iran, Laos). Please visit FIDE web site.

Bangladesh is in sole lead at the points table with maximum 4 points after end of the 2nd round games of the six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022. The event is sponsored by Saif Powertech Limited, on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Sheikh Russell Day.

Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives and Pakistan are sharing 2nd position with 2 points each. The second round matches were held today 14th October at the Bangladesh Chess Federation Hall-Room.

In the 2nd round, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 3-1 game points. On behalf of Bangladesh, Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Razib, Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman and International Master Mohammad Minhaz Uddin defeated FIDE Masters Amer Karim, Junaid Sohail and Muhammad Shahzeb of Pakistan respectively. International master Mohammad Fahad Rahman lost to FM Muhammad Waqar of Pakistan.

Nepal’s Singhesor Das beat Maldives’ Ahmed Aman Ibrahim and Maldives’ Candidate Master Mohammed Hassan drew with Nepal’s FIDE Master Bilam Lal Shrestha.

3rd round games will start on tomorrow 15th October from 3-00 PM at the same venue. The 3rd round matches are: Nepal vs Pakistan, Sri Lanka vs Maldives and Bangladesh vs Bhutan.

Asian Youth Chess Championship Has Started in Bali, Indonesia

A grand total of 456 children from 20 countries played in the Asian Youth Rapid Chess Championship today 14th October 2022 in Bali, Indonesia. The number was too large for one hall in the Grand Inna Kuta hotel and had to be played in four halls. Below the Organizing Committee members join Guests of Honor Bali Governor Wayan Koster (seventh from left) and Indonesian Chess Federation President GM Utut Adianto (sixth from left). Asian Chess Federation was represented by ACF Executive Director Casto Abundo (second from right).

The event is organized by the Indonesian Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. After expertly solving the usual organizational problems of visas, airport reception and hotel bookings, the organizing PERCASI launched the tournament to an exciting start with the Rapid Chess Championship. Colorful opening ceremonies were held with traditional dance group and musical troupe.
