Uzbekistan Tops Western Asia Youth Beach Blitz Chess Championship

Uzbekistan topped the Western Asia Youth Blitz Chess Championship held 22nd June 2022 in Maldives with 4 golds and 3 silver medals followed by India also with 4 golds but 2 silvers and Kazakhstan with 3 gold medals. Visit chess-results.com for round by round results. The anticipated strong winds did not occur and they were lucky it did not rain but a late start resulted in loss of sunlight in some final round. It was an interesting change to hold a tournament on the beach which is iconic of the Maldives.

India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan Top 3 in Western Asia Youth Chess Championships

The Indian team garnered four golds and four silver medals to win the overall award in the Western Asia Youth Chess Championships held 17-22 June 2022 in Maldives. Kazakhstan followed also with four golds but with three silver medals to place second followed by Uzbekistan with three gold medals.

Nine countries competed in the event organized by the Maldives Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE, namely Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and host Maldives. National University Women Win Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines Chess Championship

MANILA—National University Chess Team played brilliantly to bring home it’s first Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) College Women’s chess team title. The UAAP season 84 was held recently at the Far Eastern University in Morayta, Manila.

The NU Bulldogs were composed of Princess Nicole Ballete , WFM Allanney Jia Doroy , WIM  Kylen Joy Mordido, Jesca Docena , Natasja Jasmine Balabbo and Kisha Marie Flores under the guidance of coach National Master and United States chess master Jose “Jojo” Aquino Jr., team managers Samson Go and Galo Lim.

They proved too classy for the competition scoring 26.5 points, while runner up De La Salle managed 21, and third placer Adamson. The Lady Falcons and the Ateneo Blue Eagles tied at 15.5 points but the former had nine match points compared to the latter’s six.

Individual players also won medals for their efforts.

They are Ballete (board 1 gold medalist), Doroy  (Rookie/MVP of the year, board 2 gold medalist), Mordido  ( board 3 silver Medalist) and Docena (board 4 gold medalist).

“Thank you to all of my players for always barking up the right tree. You are all the reasons why we achieved this title. Continue barking and biting hard and stay hungry because this is just the beginning. NU Let’s Go Bite Bite Bite. I would like also to thank our team managers Samson Go and Galo Lim for their undying support,” said coach National Master and United States chess master Jose “Jojo” Aquino Jr.

Halfway Mark of Western Asia Youth Chess Championships

India, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan lead their respective age groups among girls at the 5-round halfway mark of the Western Asia Youth Chess Championships in Ukalhas, Maldives organized by the Maldives Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE.

Western Asia Youth Chess Championship Starts

The Western Asia Youth Chess Championship with standard time control has started with early leaders from various countries. Visit chess-results.com for standings and round by round results. Above is Team Maldives, the largest delegation befitting the host country. The festival is held in six age groups for boys and girls. Nine countries are competing in the event organized by the Maldives Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE, namely Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and host Maldives.

Teams were met at the airport (above are some members of Team India) by the organizing Maldives Chess Association and taken by speedboat below to the island of Ukulhas.

India Leads Gold Medal Haul in Western Asia Youth Rapid Chess Championships

India won five gold medals followed by Kazakhstan with 3 golds, Uzbekistan 2 and Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh with one each in the Western Asia Youth Rapid Chess Championships held 16th June. The tournament was opened by host Maldives Chess Association President Husain Shiyan together with Zone 3.2 President Syed Shahab Uddin of Bangladesh, Zone 3.4 President Husan Turdialiev of Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka Chess Federation President Luxman Wijesuriya, newly elected Chess Federation of Pakistan President Hanef Qureshi and other dignitaries in ceremonies above and below. Nine countries are competing in the event organized by the Maldives Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE, namely Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and host Maldives.

The Technical Meeting was conducted by Chief Arbiter IA Haroon or Rashid of Bangladesh assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter IA Kaussar Bauyrzhan of Kazakhstan. Visit chess-results.com.

Dambasuren Batsuren and Altan-Ulzii Enkhtuul Win Mongolian Open and Women’s Championships

The Mongolian Championship 2022 in open and women sections took place from May 12-23, 2022, in Chinggis, Khentii. Both tournaments, 12-player round-robins with classical time control, were held simultaneously in the same venue.

The second-rated participant, 18-year old Dambasuren Batsuren, turned in a commanding performance and claimed his maiden title at the fourth attempt. The champion scored an impressive 8½/11 and became the only unbeaten player in the event.

Ganzorig Amartuvshin and Bayarsaikhan Gundavaa finished a full point behind the champion and tied for second place, with the former taking silver thanks to a greater number of victories.

Altan-Ulzii Enkhtuul dominated the women’s event, despite losing her second-round game against Turmunkh Munkhzul. After this hiccup, Altan-Ulzii notched up seven straight victories and clinched the title with a round to spare.

Bayarjargal Bayarmaa stayed in the race for the most part but lost two games (including one against the champion) and came off second best. Turmunkh Munkhzul inflicted the only defeat on the champion won bronze.

Teams Arrive in Maldives for Western Asia Youth Chess Championship

Teams have started arriving in Maldives for the Western Asia Youth Chess Championship starting 16th June in Male organized by the Maldives Chess Association under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE,

Above is Team Kazakhstan with 16 players accompanied by coaches and parents. Nine countries are competing in the event, namely Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and host Maldives. Visit chess-results.com. Below is Team Kyrgyzstan.

Players and accompanying adults look forward to a week of chess holiday combined with swimming at the picturesque island of Ukulhas and luxurious hotel. There will be Rapid, Standard and Beach Blitz championships. Some days with only one round in the morning will give players the whole afternoon to swim in the beach.
