Mohammad Fahad Rahman and Jannatul Ferdous Win Zone 3.2 Men’s and Women’s Zonals

Bangladesh IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman won the honor of becoming the undefeated champion in the open section of the Bangabandhu Asian Zone-3.2 Chess Championships, qualifying into the FIDE World Cup Chess-2023. the event was supported by the FIDE Planning and Development Commission. IM Fahad (above) won the title by scoring seven and a half points in 9 games. FM Tahsin Tazwar Zia of Bangladesh won the silver medal as the runner-up by scoring seven points and FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan of Sri Lanka became third won the bronze medal.

In the women’s category, Bangladesh’s WCM Jannatul Ferdous (above) won the honor of being the undefeated champion. Women’s Candidate Master Jannat won the title with seven and a half points in 9 games and bagged the gold medal. WFM Noshin Anjum finished runner-up with seven points and bagged the silver medal. WFM Master Nazarana Khan Eva bagged the bronze medal after finishing third with six and a half points.

Fahad Rahman and Ferdous qualified into the FIDE World Cup and Women’s World Cup, respectively.

56 players from 6 countries participated in the open category and 22 players from 6 countries participated in the women’s category. The winners of the two groups were awarded a total cash prize of US$6,000. Out of total 6 medals, Bangladesh won 5 medals including two gold, 2 silver and one bronze in this year’s zonal chess.
