Philippines, India, Iran Lead Women’s Asian Online Nations Cup

India has 10 match points and 18.5 game points while Iran has 10 match points and 17 game points. The Indian team is composed of, below from left, WGM R. Vaishali, IM Bhakti Kuklkarni, IM Padmini Rouit, WGM P.V. Nandhidhaa and WGM Mary Ann Gomes.

Winning for the Philippines were WGM Frayna over IM Sarasadat Khademalsharieh and Mordido over Motahare Asadi. Filipina Galas drew with Anousha Mahdian to seal the win. Mobina Alinasab countered for Iran by beating Fronda on board 2.

In Saturday’s round 4, the Philippines smashed Kyrgyzstan 3.5-0.5 and followed up in round 5 by blanking Lebanon 4:0.

India kept pace, crushing Myanmar 3.5-0.5 in round 4, then blanking Singapore 4:0 in round 5. In the crucial round 6, India beat erstwhile leader Indonesia 3:1 to grab a share of the lead.

Iran also scored 3.5-0.5 in round 4 against Kazakhstan, beat Indonesia 3:1 in round 5 but met its match against the Philippines in round 6.

The top eight in the 9-round Swiss qualify into the knockout Quarterfinals. The women’s tournament resumes 10am on Monday.
