15th BRDCA Karnataka state open Fide rated chess championship 2021 was held at Virginia Mall, Whitefield Main Road, Varthur Kodi Circle, Bangalore-560066. The Tournament was organized by Bangalore Rural District Chess Association (BRDCA). The Tournament attracted 211 players from all over Karnataka out of which 86 players were rated. This event was conducted with 9 rounds in Swiss format. Top seed was Sanjay N of Bengaluru with a rating of 2330. Total cash prize fund was Rs.225,000.
The tournament was inaugurated on 31st March 2021 by Chidanand A Vice President of united Karnataka chess Association and Secretary of Bangalore Rural District Chess Association (BRDCA).
All COVID norms are followed as instructed by Indian Government and BBMP norms Bangalore. All players are wearing mask during play. Sanitizer kept at enough places for players to wash their hands. After every round disinfectant spray was sprayed in all boards and clocks.
In the 9th round which started on 4th April 2021 by 1:15 PM, on the top board with white pieces Prachura PP (7 Pts) DREW with Ojas Kulkarni (7 Pts). In Second board white pieces played by Sharan Rao (7 Pts) BEAT Balakishan A (7 Pts). In the 3rd Board white pieces played by Sudharshan Bhat (6½ Pts) DREW with Parthasarthy R (7 Pts). 4 players who qualified to represent Senior Nationals at Kanpur are Sharan Rao, Ojas Kulkarni, Prachura P.P. and Parthasarathy R. The Prize Distribution Ceremony took place on 4th of April 2021 at 6.00 pm, the Chief Guest was Mr. Hanumantha R, Secretary United Karnataka Chess Association and Events committee Chairman in All India Chess Federation and Mr. Chidanand A, Secretary BRDCA & Vice president of UKCA gave away the prizes.
