Sri Lanka National Inter Club Chess Championship 2021

The strongest Team Chess Event in Sri Lanka, the National Inter Club (Super League ) Chess Championship 2021 starts tomorrow. Five National Chess Champions, GC Anuruddha, Chamika Perera, Isuru Alahakoon, Minul Sanjula Doluweera and reigning National Chess Champion, Ranindu Dilsjhan Liyanage are confirmed to play while Sachini Ranasinghe and Gihansa Sarathchandra, two women’s National Chess Champions are also registered for the event.

Reigning Champions, University of Sri Jayewardenepura has field a very strong team in this year as well. The giants from Kandy, YMCA Kandy Chess Club, the silver medalists last year also fighting for the supremacy while Nf3 Chess Club, the Bronze Medalists last year has withdrawn due to the current situation.
But, the Merrons CC, Blue and Gold CC, Super Knight CC, Sri Lanka Navy,  Grand Prix CC and  Anandians CC are ready to give a strong opposition for them. The Sokians and the Black and gold got the entry at the last minute due to the absence of Nf3 and Super Knight Teams. It is a sad loss that Nf3 could not field a team since they are the longest surviving team in this most prestigious Team Chess event in Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka National Inter Club Team Chess Championships conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka will be held from 26th February to 2nd March 2021 at the Sanhinda Hall Nugegoda.  The event will be run in the Round Robin System in nine rounds. The event will be covered live through the DGT boards and the live games link will be published soon. A total of Rs. 120,000/ in cash is offered for winners with some attractive awards,
No spectators are allowed in this event which is running with the strict health guidelines given by the Ministry of Health as well as the Sports Medicine DG of Sports Ministry.
