Tight Race in Homestretch of Asian Amateur Chess Championship

Four players share the lead in the homestretch of the 9-round Asian Amateur Chess Championship Men Under2000 at the Danat Al Ain Resort in Al Ain, UAE, organized by the Al Ain Mind Games and Chess Club under the auspices of FIDE and the Asian Chess Federation.

Umarov, Mukhammadrizo of Uzbekistan beat erstwhile solo leader CM Saeed Laily Mohamed of the UAE in the 7th round to share the lead with 5.5 points each. Catching up is CM Pankaj Sharma of India who drew with compatriot Omkar Shelke. Filipino Dandel Fernandez barged into the lead by beating Egor Vlad Lovakov (FID) who earlier won the Asian Amateur Rapid Chess Championship.

M. Farhan of India beat erstwhile solo leader 9-year old Sean Adrich Remoquillo Obado of the Philippines to force a 4-way tie for the lead in the Asian Amateur Men U1700 together with Ateek Alremaeithi Abdulla of the UAE and Gong Bonuonuo of China.

WFM Nadezhda Antonova of Tajikistan beat Mohanty Smaraki of India to grab solo lead in the Asian Amateur Women U2000. WFM Rashed Ahlam of the UAE beat erstwhile co-leader WCM G P Y Wijesuriya of Sri Lanka to join her in second slot with 5 points each.

R. Sananda of India beat compatriot Ruhan Raj Asudani to grab solo lead with 6 points in the Asian Amateur Women U1700. Nursaya Zhumabek of Kazakhstan drew with Elsa Mohamed Ahoud of the UAE to trail in second slot with 5.5 points. Four players follow with 5 points apiece.
