Pyramid of Iran rested their board 2 Grandmaster but still overwhelmed the all women team Pishgam Novin  6 : 0 to lead with one game point ahead of Bangladesh Police.

SGChessHub@JurongSpring defeated 5th round co-leader Super Knight CC. Playing without their top two boards they managed to eke out a 3 ½ : 2 ½ win for a share of 1st to 3rd place. Opposing teams are in one Zoom breakout room and can watch that each of their opponents comply with Fair Play regulations.

Bangladesh Police defeated Super Knight CC2 of Sri lanka 4 ½ : 1 ½ to attain 2nd place with only 1 game point separating them from the leader.

Fekre Bartar defeated  Bishan Chess Club, also of Iran, 5 games to 1, to tie for 5th to 9th place.

Fars Youth (IRI) beat Andishmandan Sabzevar (IRI)  4 ½ : 1 ½ to move up to 8th place.

Philippine team RiCHessMasters trounced Check.mate.club of Iran 6 : 0 to improve their ranking to 5th place.

Lion City Chess Meetup of Singapore dealt Borna Sabzevar its 6th loss for a total of 6 match points.

Four way tie for lead in Asian Club Cup Hybrid Chess Championship

The battle for first place tightens as four teams share the lead with 8 match point apiece, namely, SCFhessHub of Singapore, Bangladesh Police, Pyramid of Iran and Super Knights of Sri Lanka.

SGCHessHub@JurongfromSpring, playing at the Singapore Chess Federation headquarters above, handed 4th round solo leader Bangladesh Police their first loss 3 ½  : 2 ½ to share the lead with 8 match points.

Pyramid team of Iran (photo below) wiped out Bishan Chess Club of Singapore, winning all their games for their 8th match point and a share of the lead.

Sri Lankan team, Super Knight CC defeated Iranian Fekre Bartar 4 : 2 and is currently in 4th place due to a lower tie break.

Pishgam Novin edged out Philippine RIChessMasters 3 ½ : 2 ½ to remain at fifth place with 6 match points.

Super Knight CC2 (SRI)  drew with Lion City Chess Meetup (SGP)  to tie for 6th-7th place with Bishan Chess Club.

Iranian teams Andishmandan Sabzevar and check.mate.club also drew their match and remained tied for 12th  and 13th place

Fars Youth earned their 2nd win over Borna Sabzevar (5 ½ : ½) who suffered their 5th loss in the event.

 

 

 

 

 

GM Barcenilla, CM Bayangat star as Laguna routs Caloocan in PCAP

MANILA—Grandmaster Rogelio “Banjo” Barcenilla Jr. and Candidate Master Arjie Bayangat trounced their respective foes as the Laguna Heroes thrashed the Caloocan Loadmanna Knights, 15.5-5.5, in the third conference of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) held via Chess.com Platform on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

The Arizona, USA-based GM Barcenilla, a former two-time Asian Junior champion, whipped International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia after 43 moves of a King’s Indian defense on board two while Bayangat upset International Master Barlo Nadera after 75 moves of a Queen’s Pawn Opening on board five.

“CM Arjie Bayangat was a great revelation in tonight. Blanking IM Barlo Nadera both in blitz and rapid was a difficult task. I really appreciate the team for the determination to hurdle our match against tough Caloocan Team,” said Arena Grandmaster Dr. Fred Paez, president of the Philippine Executive Chess Association and one of the four co-team owners of the Heroes that include Mr. David Nithyananthan of KALARO, Engr. Benjamin Dy of SDC Global Choice and Engr. Jonathan Mamaril of Oregon, USA.

Laguna’s strong start sparked by Barcenilla and Bayangat was a big boost as Michella Concio nipped Woman National Master Arvie Lozano after 55 moves of English Opening on board three and FIDE Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad dealt International Master Domingo Ramos after 45  moves of a French defense on board four for a 10-4 victory in the rapid section.

Laguna’s board one player Grandmaster John Paul Gomez and board seven bet Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo settled for draws with Caloocan’s International Master Paulo Bersamina and FIDE Master Nelson Villanueva, respectively.

Paul Sanchez provided the full point for Caloocan after beating Vince Angelo Medina after 71 moves of King’s Indian attack on board six.

The Heroes, who are backed by Greatech Philippines, Inc., SDC Global Choice, Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, KALARO and Rotary Club of Nuvali,  also prevailed convincingly over the Loadmanna Knights ,5.5-1.5, in the blitz portion.

Laguna also blasted Rizal Batch Towers, 14-7.

Up next for the Heroes who tote a 15-4 win-loss record in the Northern Division are the Olongapo Rainbow Team 7 and Pengcheng Chess Club (China) on Wednesday (November 10, 2021).

Sri Lankan Super Knight CC defeated compatriot Super Knight CC2 (5 ½ – ½) to also share 2th – 4th place.

Pishgam Novin of Iran got it second win by beating Lion.City.Chess.meetup of Singapore by a score of 4 ½ – 1 ½.

Bishan Chess Club edged Andishmandan Sabzevar (both of Iran) to grab solo fifth place with 5 match points.

Philippine team RiChessMasters got its 2nd win by overwhelming Fars Youth by a score of 5 ½ – ½.

Check.mate.club (IRI) earned its first win (5 – 1) against winless Borna Sabzever (IRI).

Despite losses by their two Grandmasters in board 1 and 2, Pyramid boards 3 to 6 won their games to beat SGChessHub@JurongSpring of Singapore 4-0.

Second seed Bangladesh Police overwhelmed Fekre Bartar of Iran 5 ½ – 1/2. Only a draw by Seyyed Amirreza Razavi with Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman prevented a shut out victory.

Super Knight CC of Sri Lanka edged RiChessMasters of the Philippines 3 ½ – 2 ½ for their second win and a tie for 3rd to 6th place with 4 match points.

Top seed Pyramid of Iran remained unbeaten after trouncing Super Knight CC of Singapore with a game score of 5 – 1.

Second seed Bangladesh Police, bannered by GM Enamul Hossain and GM Ziaur Rahman, likewise defeated Pishgam Novin of Iran with 4 wins and 2 draws for a 5 – 1 victory.

Fekre Bartar (IRI) won over Fars Youth, also of Iran 4 ½ – 1 ½.

Six Teams are not far behind with 2 match points to share 5th – 10 place. RiChess Masters  of the Philippines (below left) won 5½ – ½ over Abdishmandan Sabzewar of Iran  (below right) .

UAE National Olympic Committee Awards to ACF President and General Secretary

The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee honored Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan and General Secretary Hisham Al Taher in ceremonies last month honoring 34 Emirati leading sports personalities holding top positions at the Asian continental and international levels.

Sheikh Sultan was the first Emirati to be elected President of an Asian sports federation when he was elected in 2006 to head the Asian Chess Federation.

Other Emirati presidents honored were Asian Cycling Confederation president H.E. A Strategic Partners Forum was organized by the Olympic Committee concurrently in the presence of Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, President of the General Sports Authority, First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee, Head of the Executive Office, Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Hussein, Secretary General of the General Sports Authority and Azza bint Suleiman, Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the Olympic Committee.

In his speech, Dr. Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi expressed his pride in the presence of the nation’s sons in the continental and international sports federations, as they are one of the elements of influence and sports diplomacy.

Belhoul added “The holders of continental and international positions in the sports federations are ambassadors for the sport of the Emirates, and we wish them success in their tasks. They actively contribute to enhancing the standing and presence of their federations and presenting an honorable image of the people of the Emirates. That they have reached these high positions is the fruit of effort, planning and unlimited support from the rational leadership.”

The UAE sports work system follows the directive of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, which emphasized the importance of developing and qualifying local competencies and expertise to be able to advance the Olympic sports movement at all international, continental and local levels.

Laguna bounce back, trounce Isabela in Professional Chess Association of the Philippines

MANILA—The Laguna Heroes recovered from a setback to the Manila Indios Bravos by blasting the Isabela’s Knights of Alexander, 13.5-7.5, in the third conference of the Professional Chess Association of the Philippines (PCAP) online tournament via chess.com Wednesday, November 3, 2021.

Grandmaster Rogelio “Banjo” Barcenilla Jr. bested National Master Gerardo Cabellon to power the Heroes to a 13-4 win-loss record in the Northern Division.
The Knights of Alexander slipped to 9-8.
Barcenilla, a many-time national champion, downed Cabellon in 49 moves of a King’s Indian Defense, Saemitch variation in their rapid duel.
“It was tough playing against Manila Indios Bravos and Isabela’s Knights of Alexander Teams. Both teams had solid line ups. I really admire our players for giving their best shot,” said Arena Grandmaster Dr.Fred Paez, one of the four co-team owners of the Laguna Heroes that include Mr. David Nithyananthan of KALARO, Engr. Benjamin Dy of SDC Global Choice and Engr. Jonathan Mamaril of Oregon, USA.
Also delivering wins for the Heroes backed up by Greatech Philippines, Inc., SDC Global Choice, Jolly Smile Dental Clinic, KALARO and Rotary Club of Nuvali were Fide Master Austin Jacob Literatus, Grandmaster John Paul Gomez and Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo.
Literatus defeated International Master Angelo Young in 55 moves of a King’s Indian defense, Gomez beat Renan Rabago in 51 moves of a Queen’s Pawn Opening while Lorenzo subdued Anwar Cabugatan in 62 moves of a Caro-Kann defense.
Laguna’s Michella Concio split the point with Woman Candidate Master Christy Lamiel Bernales in 38 moves of a French defense.
International Master Emmanuel Senador and Lordwin Espiritu carried the good fight for the Isabela by crushing FIDE Master Jose Efren Bagamasbad and Candidate Master Arjie Bayangat, respectively.
After Laguna won their blitz encounter, 4.5-2.5, Barcenilla struck the hardest in dominating the rapid phase, 9-5, and claiming the win.
Earlier, Laguna yielded to Manila, 11-10, while Isabela succumbed to San Juan, 14.5-6.5
Up next for the Heroes are the Caloocan Loadmanna Knights and Rizal Batch Towers on Saturday.
The San Juan Predators and Pasig City King Pirates currently pace the Northern Division with similar 16-1 records while Iloilo Kisela Knights (13-4) and Paralympics (13-3 with one armageddon tie breaker) are lording the Southern Division

The Asian Club Cup Hybrid Chess Championship is a 9-round Swiss System tournament hosted by the Iran Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation. A total of 126 players in 14 club teams are competing. Standard time control is 90 minutes for the whole game with increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.

Each playing venue is controlled by a Local Chief Arbiter and Local Technical Assistant. Opposing teams are together in a breakout room controlled by a Zoom Arbiter.

Asian Chess Federation Technical Delegate is Casto Abundo, Chief Arbiter is IA Abdulrahim Mahdi of the UAE, Deputy Chief Arbiter is Haroon or Rashid of Banglandesh, Fair Play Officer is IA Shaun Press of PNG, Tournament Director is Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh of Iran, Appeals Committee Chairman is Luxman Wijesuriya, president of Sri Lanka chess Federation.

Competition is over 6 boards with 4 men (open) and 2 women plus reserves. Individual board awards are also at stake.

The two strongest teams, Iran’s Pyramid and Bangladesh Police, are each powered by two Grandmasters and other titled players financially well supported by their sponsors.

 

 

 

 

Vietnam, India, China Top Asian Youth Chess Championships for Boys

Vietnam won the 2021 Asian Youth Chess Championships Open division held 22-24 October 2021 on Tornelo with 3 gold medals followed by India with 2 golds and China with one gold.  Close to a thousand boys from 22 counries participated inthe 9-round Swiss System tournament. The tournament was hosted by the All India Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation.
