International Organizers Seminar

The Asian Chess Federation, in cooperation with the Oman Chess Committee, organized the International Organizers Seminar which was held Online via Zoom from 15 to 19 July 2020. Sixty five students from 16 federations participated in the seminar, there were from BRN, OMA, UAE, YEM, QAT, IRQ, KSA, LEB, KUW, ALG, EGY, MAR, TUN, LBA, SOM, and FRA.

The seminar included the following subjects: Regulations of Events Commission (Mission, Members, Events Regulations, Bid Procedure) Ratings and Titles, Events Management.

At the end of the seminar, the students took the exam (as in above photos) and 54 of them passed and will be given an IO Norm according to the FIDE regulations. The lectures were given by FIDE Lecturer IO/IA Mahdi Abdulrahim (UAE), Chairman of the FIDE Rules Commission and Chairman of ACF Arbiters Commission.

The seminar was moderated by Hisham Al-Taher, Secretary General of the Asian Chess Federation.

The opening session was attended by Victor Bologan, FIDE CEO, Ozgur Solakoglu, Chairman of the FIDE Events Commission, Hisham Al-Taher, Secretary General of the Asian Chess Federation, Ahmed Al Bulushi, Chairman of the Oman Chess Committee, and Mehrdad Pahlawanzadeh, Treasure of the Asian Federation. The students praised the level of the course and the huge amount of information that they benefited from. Thanks and gratitude were extended to the Asian Chess Federation and the Oman Chess Committee for the successful organization. Thanks to the FIDE Events Commission in particular for supporting the seminar.

Antonio, Primbetov Win Asian Seniors Online Championships

Grandmaster Rogelio Antonio Jr. of the Philippines emerged champion in the Asian Seniors Online Chess Championship for Over-50 age group while Marat Primbetov of Kazakhstan won the over-65 group in the tournaments organized by the Asian Chess Federation 13 to 21st July on Chess.com.

Antonio, 58, finished alone in first place with a decisive 7.5 points from six wins and three draws in the 9 round Swiss. Five GMs and one IM competed in the field of 16 qualifiers from 7 Zonal championships among 246 players from 28 countries.

GMs Tahir Vahidov, 57, of Uzbekistan followed with 6.5 points while compatriot GM Alexei Barsov, 54, tallied 6 points to win the silver and bronze, respectively. Landing in the prize money with 5.5 points each in the following tie break order were 4th place Ricardo de Guzman, 59, of the Philippines, 5th place Chletri Ram Bahadur, 53, of Nepal and 6th place GM Saidali Iuldachev, 52, of Uzbekistan.

WIM Liang Zhihua, 50, of China won the best woman prize in the Over-50 age group while Nadezhda Iskichekova, 69, of Kazakhstan won the best woman prize in the Over-65 age group.

Primbetov, 70, performed according to his top seed ranking as he scored 7.5 points out of 9 rounds in the Over-65 age group. FM Lkhagva Jambaldoo, 76, of Mongolia followed with 7.5 points for silver while Hossein Ardeshirpour, 65, of Iran scored 6.5 points for bronze. At the closing ceremony for both age groups, players expressed their thanks for the organization of the Asian Seniors.

In a letter to Asian Chess Federation president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan, Kazakhstan Chess Federation Executive Director Zhandos Abishev wrote:

“Kazakhstan Chess Federation would like to thank Your Highness and the Asian Chess Federation for organizing such a great tournament as the Asian Seniors Online Chess Championshp 2020.

“The tournament is very useful and important for the Asian seniors in such a difficult time when almost all the offline chess competitions are postponed until an unknown time. It4 is doubly pleasant that this event is organizing on the eve of the International Chess Day.

“Players from Kazakhstan and Central Asia are really enjoyed this highly organized tournament and express their gratitude to Your Highness and to the organizing Committee represented by Mr. Casto Abundo and Mr. Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh.”

 

 

 

 

 

LMST De Silva Wins the 7th Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix 2020

LMST De Silva of Nalanda College won the 7th Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix 2020 convincingly scoring 9 points out of possible 11 Games. He Drew the final Game with EDS Chandula of Colombo University to make the supremacy. LMST is one of the most promising Chess Players in Sri Lanka who came to the National Team last year being a 13 year boy. He earned Rs. 50,000/= with the Gold medal and the trophy. GC Anuruddha who drew with Young Kevin Ranindu Silva of St. Benedict’s College to score 8 ½ points out of 11 games to placed 1st Runner up. Kevin had to satisfy with the 3rd place with the total of 8 points. Anuruddha received Rs. 30,000/= with the Silver Medal. It is also a good achievement for Kevin who is National Under 16 Champion now since this is one of the most strongest Chess events in the country. He is awarded Rs. 20,000/= with the Bronze Medal. Minul Doluweera placed 4th to receive Rs. 10,000/= while International Master, Romesh Weerawardena placed 5th with Rs. 5,000/=.

The prize distribution was held with Mr. Luxman Wijesuriya, General Secretary of South Asian Chess Council and the Commonwealth Association and the vice President of Asian Chess Federation as the Chief Guest just after the event.

The 7th Sri Lanka Chess Grand Prix 2020 was conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka from 11th to 19th July 2020 at the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka with a prize fund of Rupees 115,000/=. Leading 12 Chess players in the country participated in this 11 round, Round Robin Chess Championship.

Complete your registration:

Please register your FIDE name in your Chess.com profile and upload your ID photo. You should join your respective Zonal chess club in chess.com.

Join your respective club. Otherwise we cannot find you in the tournament and you cannot be paired and have to be removed from the list.

1 hour before start:

Zoom login opens one hour before start of game. You should login to zoom with your real name in English (Latin characters). We will begin the roll call and proctor position of your zoom camera.

30 minutes before start:

If we cannot see you in the zoom room when we call your name, you are considered withdrawn and shall be removed from the pairing list.

15 minutes before start

Login with your laptop to chess.com/live. Otherwise we get the message “player not online”. If you are not in chess.com/live 15 minutes before the start you will be removed from pairing.

You must play on laptop or desktop for screen to be clearly seen on zoom camera. If you do not have laptop 15 minutes before start you will be removed from pairing list.

You should position your zoom camera to show your profile and screen as in photo with adequate lighting. We shall use only one zoom camera in the Zonals.

Starting time:

Pairing will be uploaded starting 10am UAE time. Be ready when the chess clock starts. Disconnection will be scored by Chess.com as a loss. Do not leave your seat during the game. You can go to toilet between rounds. The next round starts 5 minutes after last game. You can check pairings and standings at chess-results.com. Link will be sent via zoom chat.

You are responsible for your internet connection and the working of your computer and zoom. Keep your zoom video and microphone switched on.

During the lunch break stay logged on to chess.com. Do not log out or it will be difficult to log back in and you will lose by disconnection.
