Indian and Indonesian Women Face Off in Asian Online Nations Cup Final

India outclassed Mongolila 3.5-0.5 in the first SF round on wins by WGM R. Vaishali, IM Padmini Rout and WGM P.V. Nandhidhaa over Mongolians IM Batkhuyag Munguntuul, WIM Bayarjargal and WIM Boldbaatar Altantuy, respectively. Davaakhuu Munkhzul saved Mongolia from a shutout by holding WGM Mary Ann Gomes to a draw.

The team playing catch up usually overextends themselves and in the second round India blanked Mongolia 4:0 to seal their place in the final.

Indonesia edged the Philippines 2.5-1.5 in the first round on the sole win by very strong Chelsie Monica Sihite over Bernadette Galas as the other three boards were drawn.

In the second round, Indonesia again edged the Philippines 2.5-1.5 on wins by IM Irine Kharisma Sukandar and Medina Warda Aulia against WGM Janelle Mae Frayna and WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda. Kylen Joy Mordido countered fore the Philippines over WIM Dita Karenza while  the board 3 game was drawn between Shania Mae Mendoza of the Philippines and Chelsie Sihite of Indonesia.

India edged Kazakhstan 2.5-1.5 in the first Semifinal round powered by Indian GM Adhiban’s win over Kazakhstan GM Rinat Jumabayev as the other three boards were drawn. In the second SF round, GMs B. Adhiban, Sarin Nihal and S. P. Sethuraman beat Kazakhstan GMs Rinat Jumabayev, Rustam Khusnutdinov and Anuar Ismagambetov, respectively. IM Denis Makhnev saved Kazakhstan from a shutout by beating GM Krishnan Sasikiran.

Iran started strong with a 2.5-1.5 victory over Australia in SF round 1 on the win by GM Amin Tabatabaei over GM Max Illingworth as the other three boards were drawn.

But Australia got their revenge in the second round on wins by GMs Anton Smirnov, Temur Kuybokarov and Max Illingworth over Iran’s Puya Idani, Parham Maghsoodloo and Amin Tabatabaei, respectively. GM Ehsan Ghaem Maghami saved Iran from a shutout by holding GM Moulthun Ly to a draw. Australia had lady luck on her side as Parham made a mouse slip on the 18th move and resigned immediately after losing a piece

And then there were four. Iran, Australia, India and Kazakhstan conquered their respective opponents in Friday’s Quarterfinal matches of the $20,000 Asian Online Nations Cup Open Chess Team Championship in Chess.com.

Iran eliminated Singapore 4:0 in the first match and played to a 2:2 draw in the second. Kazakhstan blanked the Philippines 4:0 and followed up with 3:1 score in the second match. Australia crushed Indonesia 3:1 in the first round then clinched the slot with a 3.5-0.5 thrashing in the second round. India edged Mongolia 2.5-1.5 in both rounds to qualify for the Semifinals.

The stage is set for exciting Semifinal matches between India and Kazakhstan and between Iran and Australia. There shall be two matches in each duel. The first named has white on boards 1 and 3 and black on board 2 and 4 in the first match and reverse colors for the return match.

India, Philippines, Mongolia and Indonesia Qualify to Women’s Semifinals

And then there were four women’s teams. India, Philippines, Mongolia and Indonesia beat their respective opponents in the Quarterfinal Matches of the Asian Online Nations Cup Women’s Chess Team Championship on 23rd October in Chess.com. India blanked Kyrgystan 4:0 in the first round then followed with a 3.5-0.5 thrashing for a lopsided victory.

The Philippines beat Sri Lanka twice with similar 3.5-0.5 scores.

Vietnam beat Mongolia 2.5-1.5 in the first round but Mongolia turned the tables in the second round by beating Vietnam 3.5-0.5 to win by game points tie break.

Iran edged Indonesia 2.5-1.5 in the first round but Indonesia reversed with similar 2.5-1.5 score against Iran in the second round. The tie was broken by Berlin points which gives greater weight to higher boards, i.e. 4 points are awarded to board 1, 3 points to board 2, 2 points to board 1 and 1 point to board 4. Indonesia emerged with 11 Berlin points against 9 for Iran.

India Leads 8 Women’s Teams Into Asian Online Nations Cup Quarterfinals

The Indian women’s team and seven others qualified into the quarterfinals of the Asian Online Nations Cup Chess Team Championship on Chess.com. Joining India in the exciting knockout phase are, in order of finish, Philippines, Iran, Vietnam, Mongolia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan. The Quarterfinals will be held 10am Friday (UAE time) 23rd October. Women’s pairings pit India vs. Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka vs. Philippines, Iran vs. Indonesia and Mongolia vs. Vietnam. Each duel consists of 2 matches. The first-named team in a duel has white on the odd-numbered boards and black on the even-numbered boards in the first match and vice versa for the return match.

In the preliminaries, the Indian team pulled away with a massive 16 match points out of a possible 18. In Monday’s three rounds, India crushed Philippines 3:1, then edged Kazakhstan 2.5-1.5 and similarly Vietnam 2.5-1.5. See photos of the Indian team.

The Philippines and Iran tallied 13 match points each. The Philippines lost to India in the 7th round then split the point with Mongolia 2:2 and bowed to Kazakhstan 2.5-1.5. See photos of the Philippine team.

Iran drew with Mongolia 2:2 in the 7th round, lost to Vietnam 2.5-1.5 then bounced back with a 3:1 victory over Jordan in the 9th round. Vietnam crushed Singapore 3.5-0.5 in the 7th round then edged Iran but lost to India 2.5-1.5 in the 9th round. FIDE Arbiters Seminar Online in Arabic

FIDE and Asian Chess Federation are conducting a FIDE Arbiters Seminar by FIDE Rules Commission Chairman Abdulrahim Mahdi in Arabic language online in Zoom.

The seminar was opened 17 Oct. by FIDE Executive Director Victor Bologan and FIDE Arbiters Commission Chairman Laurent Freyd.

Attending the brief opening ceremony were Asian Chess Federation Executive Director Casto Abundo and Treasurer Mehrdad Pahlevanzadeh.

Twenty four participants from 13 federations are attending the seminar, namely from France, Qatar, Yemen, Jordan, Palestine, Oman, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania and United Arab Emirates.

The seminar covers the Laws of Chess (including Rapid and Blitz), Tournament Rules, System of Games, tie breaks, Swiss System and Pairing Rules, Regulations for the rating and over-the-board title, Regulations for the titles of Arbiters and Fair Play guidelines for Arbiters in four days followed by an exam. The Seminar will provide norms for the FIDE Arbiter title.
